Where can I get Moulin Rouge-style fancy dress?

I’m going to a Moulin Rouge themed ball, and would like to know where I can get some really nice costumes from. Google isn’t helping much, and I’d like something quite glitzy rather than a leotard and a ra-ra skirt. Showgirl outfits and proper can-can get-up is much more like it. Any ideas? West or...

Place to live with easy access to Paddington?

Recent events have transpired, and it seems that my boyfriend and I may be moving back to London within the year (Hallelujah!) We’re in New York right now, which is nice but not my cup of tea. If we do end up in London, he’ll need to get to Paddington easily, as he’ll be commuting to Oxford. So I&#...

See, the thing is that I am near-terminally unfit and the only way I’ll do exercise is being tricked into it. I started Egyptian / belly a while ago (and would love to do it again) but it went a little too advanced for me as I started late in the term so I gave up. I’m really asking two questions: ...

Do you hate any tubelines?

I realised today I hate the District Line. I was in Parsons Green and had to get to Monument however it isn’t that simple is it because there are lots of off-shoots and I had to get off at Earls Court instead(I was tired and grumpy too). Why can’t it just go in one straight line like the Central Line ...

In Shoreditch, the boards at Spitalfields market, Cafe 1001 and Coffee@ have lots of ads for rooms to rent. What about further west in Hoxton, Clerkenwell, Bloomsbury, WC2, W1? Which cafes etc. have ‘Flatmate wanted’ boards? vikram

Is there anywhere like Belgo’s but better?

My partner and myself went to Belgo’s in Covent Garden last weekened and, although the food was pretty good (tasty mussels in a giant pot) and the choice of beers was mighty fine, we were a little disappointed with the rushed in-out service we received. Also, we were sitting so close to the couple next to us t...

Where to go for a night out in Portobello?

Am off out for a night in and around Portobello, but west London is a mystery to me, I’ve only lived here 37 years. Once we’ve had our food and sunk a few beers where should we go next? Something musicy, clubby, late night pubby even. It’s a select gathering (anyone who responded to the emai...

Strange inscription on west London front doors

So on a handful of front doors in west London (including one in my street) there is chalked “KMB 2008”. The writing is always at the very top of the door. Does anyone know what this means? A marking by property developers? Funeral directors? Drug dealers? It’s very odd.
