As if bus/train/tube journeys aren’t already miserable enough, we
all know the cold and flu season is upon us now that every
carriage/bus/platform sounds like an infirmary. As I sat on the
tube this morning and a man plopped down next to me and proceeded
to splutter, gasp, gulp and hack non-stop throughout the...

Apparently, if you happen to have moved to places in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire etc. then you’re in for a shock.
The travel fares for trains will go up around 20% plus, say in Stevenage and Hitchin. The worse hit are apparently in Bedfordshire towns like Biggleswade, Baldock etc. It will be very unfair for...

My daily journey involves a half hour commute in/out of London on an overground train. I CANNOT stay awake. This leaves me open to the dangers of missing my stop and shoulder drool. I’ve tried listening to music, and discovered I can sleep through Nirvana. Reading is a definite no-no. Short of continually bash...

A while ago, before the re-launch of this site, I remember reading a post by “Mr Frisky” about an experience he had on an underground platform. He was pushed on a tube platform which was very overcrowded and ended up being bowled over down the platform when a train came in.

Had the pleasure of my lovely nephew’s company on Saturday, as i took him to the Tower of London. As he’s eight and walks or is driven to school he loves going on the tube, and at every stop he asked me, is this your favourite station?
Which got me thinking, is there such a thing as a great tube station....

How old should you be before getting on the bus, tube or train by yourself?
I ask because yesterday, my lovely nephew, who’s eight, was put a bus home by his father as my sis couldn’t pick him up from school, as she’d been carted off to St. Georges a couple of hours earlier. The journey was on the ...

Just wondering if anyone out there has seen anything odd while on public transport.
For me, I was on a tube to Farringdon, crowded as usual, then a girl who was standng by the door hanging onto the rail, shreaked, everyone looked, there she was holding on for dear life and a spider was slowly crawling along the r...

In London we have the choice of at least five types of public transport: The Tube, The Bus, The River Boat, The Train and The Taxi.
Of all the types of public transport which do you prefer and why?
For me the cab is too expensive and I don’t live or work on the river which leaves me:
1. The Tube R...

“Person under a train”? “Customer action”? “Customer incident”?
How do you think they should publicly announce these?
Should we be preserved from the gory details of whatever’s impeding our journey? Or should we have our faces rubbed (metaphorically) in it?

Who are these people who get on a busy train and then stand right in the doorway, when there is a queue of people behind them waiting to get on. Who are they, where do they come from!? What makes a person so dense that they have no awareness of their physical space, or the courtesy to look behind and see if they m...

I got on the train with my two bags and fell completely flat on face, bags all over the carriage, because of my heels. I quickly had to get up and go to the next carriage where no one had seen me. I can still hear the loud splat as I landed.
Unfortunately I left my book in the first carriage but was too embarrass...

Coming home last night, heavy rain and train signals out due to a lightning strike on the box, just one train per hour or less out of Paddington on the local route.
Crammed into the carriage, we trundled into Ealing Broadway. There were two guys by the door, vetting passengers before letting them board, if they w...

I’m off to France tomorrow morning, via Stansted airport. I’m going with my sister, who insists on getting the train, as opposed to the coach. Now I don’t want to get in a huge rant and risk a flaming, because I know some of you have vicious tongues and fingers, so all I’ll say is this: why d...

Ok I’ve been building lastrounds.co.uk for about 16months now, so I thought that I should launch it even though its slightly buggy.
The aim of the Last Rounds Project is to promote safe and sensible drinking. It does this by not only listing pub opening times, but also local transport links – last tra...

I’m usually sympathetic to strikes – well, no, actually, I’m frequently not, but tube strikes always strike me as non-productive. All they do is piss off the only people who are likely to support them. If they just said “We’re going to leave all the ticket barriers open and not collect ...

Hundreds of commuters were stuck underground for nearly 3 hours last night, their hometime ruined by a power failure on the Jubilee Line. As usual, such bad news doesn’t make it onto TfL’s website but the BBC report that Blitz spirit prevailed with resigned passengers sharing food and seats while the unfortunate driver kept them up to date with… well, not very much really. ‘Read More”:http://londonist.com/2008/04/detrainment_and_2.php
