How to best avoid having one's bicycle stolen?

So, The Husband and I cycled over to Broadway Market this past Saturday afternoon (c.2pm). We locked our bikes (with thick cable locks) to iron railings along one side of Andrews Road, just near the corner of Broadway Market. Lots of bikes locked up there and lots of pedestrians passing by. Well, after some rando...

Help me city! Bored this eve, I got aroung to doing a bit of internet banking. Realising that yet again I have much less money than I hoped until payday, I examined my transactions in great detail, which is when I discovered someone has stolen a bit of me- well at least £3.88. There is no great coincidence that̵...

Can I have your tags please?

I am new to the site and, after looking through a few profiles, realise that I need some cool tags. I understand the tags are mean to be a unifying link between two similar people so it seems silly just to make my own up and be the only one on here with them ...so… What tags do you have that you especia...

My colleague had her bag nicked last Wednesday from Pop bar in Soho. Complete pain but she cancelled her cards and reported it to the police that night. The next day she got a call from a guy calling himself Daniel who explained that he had found her bag in the gentleman’s toilets in Pop Bar the night before, he said...

I find it interesting, and a little disturbing, to see how many of the posts to LbL are about how to get something for nothing, like posting letters for nothing, using the bus for nothing, getting into the gym for nothing. All these are posted openly by people who are apparently not at all abashed by effectively ste...

Are there patterns in car vandalism?

My flatmate has had his car (106) broken into four times in the past year. The first two times they took some cds and a crate of beer from inside (not visible from outside). Nothing was there to take the next two times. However my car (MGF), which is normally parked next to his, has never been touched. Why the di...

To whoever stole my car stereo in Clapham last Sunday night, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Oh, and that typewriter you nicked from the boot, I’ve been trying to find it a good home for ages. South Of The River Girl

So, on friday I’m leaving the V&A after 7 years of working there… It’s my favouritest museum in London because I’ve watched it turn from the nations attic into somewhere that showcases some amazing stuff. I’m proud to have been there and seen it happen. As I’m leaving I’...

Beagleskin’s post about the Shakespeare’s Head reminded me of why I don’t like it – I was pickpocketed in there. Which led me on to remember all the other places i have either lost or had my bag/purse/mobile stolen. I’ve been here just over 11 years, and have the same issue number on my...

Having just spent valuable seconds of my life writing my postcode on anything electrical and/or valuable in my house with a UV pen, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of actually ever having anything stolen returned? Regardless of whether it was marked or not? Do you think marking stuff really helps?
