Will TfL pay my cab fare?

While at my barbers the other day, having one of those sociable chats with the fellow punters, an ex tube driver explained this. If, at the end of the day, the barriers at a station allow you through but you miss the last train, the station is obliged to pay you for a cab home. This is obviously something Lond...

TFL have got a new leaflet out, ‘produced by women for women’ about travelling on the tube. I’d like to meet the women responsible. And smash them round the head with a bottle of pinot grigio. It seems it was designed with a particularly fragile sub- species of the capital’s female population...

How important is it for the train stations to be clean?

Why are tube stations closed or offering restricted services while TfL / TubeLines make them look cleaner? Surely what we all want is for the trains to run safely and efficiently? Yet the rails on the Victoria Line are so bumpy you feel like the trains are about to leap off. And all they can do is spend a fortune re...

I happened to be at a football match, where I was introduced to a friend of a friend, who turned out to have recently been pretty senior in TfL. He confirmed that the big issue is paying for installing card readers at overland stations. Basically, it costs about £800 per card reader, so there’s the additional ...

Should I voluntarily offer my hard earned cash to tfl?

I wanted to ask LbLers advice as I got caught without a ticket on a bendy bus just before Xmas. I was only on for 5 mins, and usually pay – grrr – but that’s by the by. Contrary to what I expected, they just took my name and address down, put it in their hand-held computer thing and asked for ID. T...

Does anyone know what the thing hanging over the ticket barriers in the middle arch at Paddington is? It looks like a lost rucksack, but it’s 15m up… JooPoo

Is there a congestion conspiracy?

Interesting fact. TfL is actually creating congestion to encourage belief that the congestion zone is good. Traffic lights are staying on red longer and green shorter to build up traffic. If you ring TfL and complain they always say “It’s a fault” and it goes back to how it was for a few weeks befo...

Are the poles in the tube trains colour coded?

Train colours. Well, tube train inside poles actually. Are they really the same colour as the tube lines (i.e. black for Northern, red for Central, etc.) I guess the Jubilee Line is easy (silver) but is this some kind of public service for when you don’t know whether you are Circled, Districted or Met’ed...

Is TFL text asking for trouble?

Transport for London run a text service that is supposed to tell you bus times. You text the service, you get your times (or that’s the idea). Simple. Here are a few of the text messages that TFL’s text service received recently, simultaneously revealing the extent of despair at London’s bus servic...

Can anyone shed some light on the invisible Putney Green station?

On the district line platform map at Mile End station they have invented a new stop. On their map between Putney Bridge and East Putney they show a ‘Putney Green’. Is this LU being stupid, or is it just a really old map still showing a now defunct station? I keep peering out of the window on the way thro...

Trouble maker or commuters' hero?

I was on my way home on the Met line, it was packed as it always is, we pulled into King X and the normal herds of commuters got off and the new ones got on. This one guy ran onto the train as the doors were closing and held the door for his mate who was coming through the gates. I heard from the platform this ranti...

Is cycling on the Greenway a bit dodgy?

My girlfriend is thinking about starting to cycle to work and dutifully used the handy TfL journey planner to figure out the best route. She showed it to me and I thought it looked great as it was mostly off road. However, not knowing East London particularly well at all, it transpires that what I thought was a nice...

What really annoys you about London transport?

As you are probably all aware, I seem to have more problems on buses and trains than anyone else – so this is something close to my heart. I am fed up of ridiculous arguments with bus drivers about accepting “real money”, and being charged large amounts of money for a transport service that is, ...

Anyone else see the French/Spanish singing troupe on the 88 Bus on Saturday?

I was meeting some friends who were visiting London in Covent Garden on Sat, and due to TFL needing to “improve” the northern line I had to get the bus. This initially seemed a bit of a drag as I was running late and the bus takes longer. However when I went upstairs on the 88 from Mornington Crescen...

I mean if you use both buses and tubes on a given day, and in comparison with using a 1-day TravelCard? The upper caps seem to apply independently to the buses and then the tubes so I seem to fairly regularly rack up about £8 for a day’s zone 1/2 travel.. I would check the figures on the wonderful Oyster secti...

As well as informing everyone (if you don’t already know) that a tube strike starts on Sunday, I would like to ask people the best way to get about without the tube. Is it possible without disrupting your life too much?

TFL Live Departure Boards - are they any use?

Have we seen these? http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/departureboards/ Technically quite whizzy – but are they actually any use? Even if you know how long it takes to get from your desk to your platform, all manner of things can conspire against you on the way. In fact, they could make it all up a...

(See what I did there?) OK folks, I want to know which tube stations have mice running around by the tracks that I can look at. I haven’t seen any in ages, and I do miss watching the little loves scurrying around while I wait for TFL to sort their lives out. I figure I’m just at the wrong stations. So...

What's the definitive position on a zone 2-3 tube pass?

Does it allow you to travel through zone one or is that some heinous crime punishable by having to spend all your time underground. My dilemma is this: I currently purchase a bus pass which suits my needs although occasionally I venture under the pavement and currently buy credit for this – say £10 per month...

While broswing Wikipedia I was interested to note that the boffins at London Underground have decided that travelling on the Waterloo & City line is far too pleasant. So, they’ve decided to insall mobile phone coverage. Super. Not only does this seem entirely fucking pointless (it’s only a 5 minut...
