Does anyone else think the Oyster pre-pay rates are a bit of a swizz?

I mean if you use both buses and tubes on a given day, and in comparison with using a 1-day TravelCard? The upper caps seem to apply independently to the buses and then the tubes so I seem to fairly regularly rack up about £8 for a day’s zone 1/2 travel..
