Hello, I have the urge to go swimming, preferably somewhere with a 15m + pool good for doing laps in. Public pools would be best as I don’t really fancy signing up to a Gym just to swim. I live in Camden so anywhere nearby or a short cycle/bus trip would be just peachy. Cheers

I’ve just recently taken up swimming and it’s been a blast. I’m now just looking for those swimming park places. I remember when I was young going to Water Palace, to the best of my knowledge I think it was in Croydon, but it got shut down for some reason (if you know why, note it here as well please). This place ha...

I went to Churchill’s house in Kent with my Mum a while ago. It was nice and National-trusty and my Mum enjoyed it and that. But what I thought was the dogs knackers was that Churchill had this pond/swimming pool in his garden. Apparently the clever thing about freshwater pools is that the water is filtered...

How can I entertain a 7yo for a few hours around Leyton? (A London question, for Londoners)

Next weekend, June 23rd, I was hoping to visit my sister’s country estate and let junior’s cousin keep him occupied while I slowly poached myself in red wine and direct sunlight, but now my niece has korfball training (yeah, I know) and that plan’s off. We’ve had a few stay-at-home weekends l...

I must and shall get wet this summer… just as soon as the summer begins. But where to go? A Google search on London Lidos throws up a fair bit of stuff – mostly about how all the lidos are either closing, have already closed or are struggling to stay open. Anyway the nearest ones to me are Brockwell Park...

Non swimming gent here. Anyone know of somewhere in North London or central London where I can get swimming lessons? One on one or as part of an adult group – either is fine but I’m keen to get past going blue in the shallow end. Flapper

Syncronised swimming... honestly

I have a yearning to start synchronised swimming. Do people even still do that? If so, is there anywhere in London which would take an overweight, non-graceful heffalump such as myself and teach her to be glide through the water like a sylph? I have absolutely zero experience and no idea whether I’d be any ...

So this nutter is going for a swim at the north pole to raise awareness about climate change. What’s the most insane/dangerous stunt you’ve ever done?

Last week I ended up with a friend I’d met in the pub that night, and we were stood admiring the Thames. And then, in our drunken stupor, we pondered on whether you could actually swim across the Thames. And agreed that by our respective 40th birthdays (so a good few years yet), we should give it a try. I d...

The Olympic Legacy plan, announced today, promises free swimming for all by 2012 (well, hopes for, rather than promises) because that’s the activity most people would take up, if any. Read more here. Really? We’d play table tennis. Or do those dancing computer games. What about you? What’s yo...
