I was having a bit of a sort out the other week and found a couple of pieces of jewelry from an ex that I don’t particularly want to keep any more…. nothing really flash but a couple of bracelets, earrings, a ring etc… they’re quite nice – white gold etc and I don’t want to just t...

Where can I buy magic stuff?

Posted by NARDINI over 3 years ago

Leading on from the question about where to see some magic – I would like to know where I can actually buy some decent magic tricks from. I remember that there used to be a tiny shop in Shaftsbury Avenue called, I think, the Magic and Fun Shop. It was owned by the late and very great Tommy Cooper – hi...

What shops do you hate?

I hate Halfords for being incompetant and always ignoring me whenever I go in there. And I hate Tescos for overpowering the UK with their enormous sprawling shops and dodgy food (did anyone see Whistle Blower the other night? Disgusting!) I also hate French Connection for being stupidly expensive and thinking that...

Hello – I need to be getting myself a new geetar soon, most likely a 12-string electro-acoustic. I’ve been to the obvious places: Denmark Street, The House of Guitars for example but I know there are more shops out there. I know because I’ve seen them. I just can’t remember where they are. ...

Highgate - what's it all about?

I’m 99 per cent certain that I’m taking a flat on Archway Road in July, but I don’t know the area at all. A quick scout about today and it looked ok, but I need the collective Borg wisdom of FCL to tell me what’s good and what’s not. Where’s good to eat, drink, shops, gyms etc. An...

A friend of mine told me that the amazing tudor building of Liberty on Great Marlborough Street is actually made from the timbers of two old ships. Can this be true?

What happened to key cutters?

I’ve been trying to find a place to get keys cut. It’s one of those things that you sort of assume can be done just about anywhere, until you actually try. There used to be a place at Victoria, but it was in a building that has just been demolished. UpMyStreet thinks the nearest one to Victoria is som...

Where can you buy German food?

Have just returned from a quick break in Frankfurt where I enjoyed some (very hearty) traditional meals, including cheese with music (the ‘music’ is onion and vinegar, so called because after you eat it your body starts making, erm, music) and green sauce. Anyway, my German friends (who used to live i...

I recently left my favourite pair of Bose Quiet Comforts on a train between London and Manchester. Now I am in the market for a new pair but don’t want to get the same ones again, onwards and upwards I say. Normally I would head directly to eBuyer but given my strange shaped ears and a penchant fr comfort ...

As ever I know that you guys know everything about everything about London so here’s the latest question I’ve had from a reader that I plainly can’t answer: “I visited a shop on Portobello Road some time ago, they sell ’’xxx-parking only’’ signs for various cars in ...

This is a lovely blog. And it’s Londony, for those who like that sort of thing. It’s lots of pictures of shop fronts, and makes for weirdly compelling viewing. Makes me want to rush out and be all creative in the sunshine, it does.
