Where can the larger-footed gentleman buy shoes?

Posted by Simone over 2 years ago

I’m size 12, which I feel is not unreasonable, but generally I have to resort to the world wide interweb for means of shoe-purchasing. Most shops will have a few 12’s, but never the ones I want. Is there a shop that will sell me a good range of large-footed shoes? I am interested in mules.

Decent bag shop for ergonomic rucksack?

Does anyone know of a really decent bag shop in London? I’m looking for a real mega-emporium as I want a rucksack that has an ergonomic design. Obviously I’ve looked online, but I want to be able to get my hands on the real thing so that I can guage the size properly. I’ve thought of the usual c...

Does anyone know of a shop which sells kites in Central London? I can try the toy shops but I’m looking for something a bit more specialist with a good range of kites.

What's your favourite shop?

As it says on the tin. What’s your favourite shop? And why? I like the pipe tobacconist in Holborn, becuase it smells of pipe tobacco and the people talk about shag all the time. I’ve never bought anything in there, which is probably why they successfully got an ASBO against me.

Why is there an old-fashioned newsagents underground?

Near Gloucester Road Underground station, if you walk along the tube tracks for two minutes (toward South Kensington on the District line) and turn left down a small passage before you reach South Kensington, there is the remains of a small shop which looks like an old fashioned newsagents. The windows are broken, a...

Where can I buy a telescope?

It’s not for me. I use a telephoto lens for the full ‘Rear Window’ experience`. I’d like to get one for a friend’s birthday, which is this weekend, so the internet’s not an option. Not averse to Selfridges’, etc., if they do them and they can be recommended, but if the...

The boyf has recently got very in to Moroccan food, and loves to cook it. I’d love to get him a tagine for christmas. I know John Lewis does a Le Creuset one, but i would love to get him an authentic one from a shop in town. Anyone know where I could get one? Ideally around N4, but will travel.

Did anyone else catch that the Laurence Corner clothes shop has gone?

Did anyone else catch that the military clothes shop at Laurence Corner shut down at the weekend after 50-odd years? Yet another place I meant to go to and now its too late. I often used to go past by bus, and it must have been sudden as there’s not even been a Closing Down note. Apparently the man who se...

What's the finest shop name pun in London?

As we all know, punning is the highest form of wit. And it seems that London’s entrepreneurs are the world’s craftiest punners. Witness this morning’s entry: if you need to buy a refrigerator in Stoke Newington, where would you go? Why, Sellfridges of course. And are you feeling a bit peckish? H...

What can I do about the checkout lady who stole my grapes?

Posted by whenthiswasfields over 3 years ago

The other day I went into the little Sainsbury’s by Victoria Station. I’d decided to buy some grapes, which I promptly did, but as the lady beeped the bunch across the till, she reached out a fat greedy hand and snatched away a pair of grapes. Our eyes met. She smiled. And popped the grapes into her grin...

Does anyone know of a shop selling Finnish food, or a bar /restaurant serving Finnish recipes?. The only place I can find is the Church guild in Rotherhithe which is a bit devoid of atmosphere. Any suggestions kindly received. IvestartedsoI’llfinish

EAT shops

Hi y’all! Now correct me if I’m wrong but the EAT shops are there (mainly) to serve soup to keep starving Londoners (and tourists!) alive and working hard to make this city great. Now I was walking back to my office after a long workout at the gym and fancied the Goulash they were serving at 12.30R...

A friend is getting married and she will be wearing a lovely antique, silver necklace. She now needs to find a tiara to complement said necklace but is having trouble finding anything that’s not new and shiny. Any suggestions? We need antique-ish shops that won’t break the bank, markets that sell such things or...

Have you ever noticed the shelf of shame?

I was in Sainsbury’s this morning and wandered down the toiletry aisle for a few ‘essentials’. As I headed for the checkout, I passed the shelf for condoms and noticed that for £8 you can buy a vibrating cock ring. Sex toys in Sainsbury’s! (tee hee!) Seeing this made me stop and inspect the o...

Where can I quickly obtain cheap receptacles in which to store marmalade ?

The nearest kitchenware shop apparently charges £1.99. £1.99 ! I mean I could go to a shop, buy jars of marmalade, throw away the contents and use them for less than that. I’d really like to recycle old jars, or buy some kilner jars, without breaking the bank or incurring serious delay. Ideally in the Ca...

Where can I find a shop that sells bar spoons and muddlers?

I want to buy a stainless steel bar spoon and a muddler. Both items are used to make cocktails. I found lots of places online to purchase these, but I don’t really want to pay £6 for them to deliver what is basically a long fancy spoon and a rolling pin. Strangely I am happy to pay £6+ each for what is bas...
