I am a big fan of London, having lived both in Islington and Clapham for the past two years. My long-time, long-distance partner is shortly going to move in with me, however, only on one condition: That we escape the madness and live in a quiet and green area (of London), or else leave the city in favour of a smalle...

A few years ago the old Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum/ Friern Barnet Mental Hospital was sold off, and the hospital converted into fancy flats, and the grounds around it used for an estate of “Luxury Townhouses”. Even if you didn’t know that these houses were built on the grounds of a Victorian Lunat...

I have to meet some people in Soho of an early evening. I have to record the conversation for work purposes, so anywhere with loud music or busy is out of the question. Any ideas people? A bar or café would be best. Was thinking of the Phoenix Theatre Bar or something. Is that noisy?

Can anyone recommend a nice pub/restaurant around the Roman Road (E5)area (have car, so can travel) to take my Nan to in the afternoon for her birthday next week. She’s a woman of simple tastes (and I’m poor!) so nothing too fancy, but I’d like to avoid anywhere that plays loud music as she’s...

Do you know a decent boozer in Central London that I can have a chat with a couple of old mates in without going eh? eh? pardon? sorry? all the time? Essentially, I suppose, I’m talking about a not very popular pub. No theme to speak of. No suited ruffians. The possibility of seats. The best we’ve com...

I’m organising a small (6 people) business meeting over drinks in the evening. So I’m looking for a bar in the city (sort of midway between ludgate circus and liverpool street) where there isn’t music booming out all night long and where I can book a table. Somewhere fairly upmarket and not too t...

Anyone know where a girl can have a quiet drink and some good house music? Haven’t found anything chilled out enough since moving to London. One of my favourite bars when I lived in Orange County was one called Avalon in Costa Mesa. Avalon was tiny and unmarked so there was hardly anyone ever there except fo...

I’m looking for somewhere to take a friend whose grandmother’s just died – so somewhere that’s not going to tut and throw us out if we don’t spend lots of money but won’t worry if there are floods of tears and handkerchiefs – alcohol would be good. It’s not an area ...
