I need a library with information on semiotics and symbols

Does anyone know a library, that is open for public use (preferably on Saturdays too), where I could find information on political signs and symbols and their use in the 20th century? I need to write a tutorial paper for uni but as a distance student, don’t have access to a uni library. Thanks!

Where to watch Kevin Rudd overthrow Howard in the Australian election?

Despite being an AWOL Aussie, I cannot wait for November 24 to roll around so that I can whoop and holler at Howard’s long awaited demise. Just wondering where other politically minded Aussies (or interested non-Aussies, I’m not picky) might head to hoist a pint in celebration (or, god in heaven forbi...

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been saddened by the demise of the weekly TFT email and, try as I might, I can’t get the same fix from FCL. Could we have another category in the FCL conversation topic list called “TFT Deceased” with subcategories like “My Haiknews”, &#...

What are your thoughts about London and terrorism?

If anything has really put London on the map in the last few years, it was the Tube bombings. Our place as a global capital was sealed by 7/7. Obviously, this is not a good thing, but it’s quite interesting the way that it has changed the city – the relations between the public and the police, the way we...

Ah, the politics of London...

One of the things that I have really enjoyed about moving to London (from bonnie Edinburgh) is that I have been able to go to various political meetings. I’ve been to a couple of Adam Smith Institute Events, a couple of Bow Group lectures (Oliver Letwin – unconvincing – and Polly Toynbee – confused old harrida...

I am unable to post on my original thread, I get as far as a pic of Mamfer and can scroll no further (and yes, I have tried!). I can read everything when I am not logged in though. Ok, here is the state of play, last week was good fun and everyone wants to do it again. For starters we are going to meet every fort...

Global warming - fate or fake?

A few months ago there was a C4 programme claiming global warming never existed – unfortunately i missed it. Since then i’ve been talking about and listening out for arguments for and against it. Apparently this programme had a very convincing argument which basically showed a direct correlation betw...

Is blogging really that much more important than radio phone-ins?

Some say the rise of political blogging is challenging the traditional orthodoxy as represented by the opinion-formers of the press and news journals. Others say it’s just a sideshow of time-rich, single-issue egotists. Still others don’t give a monkey’s, while a few haven’t a clue what’...

Have just read that London mayor-hopeful Boris Johnson has revealed he’s inspired by the mayor in the film Jaws. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7013732.stm Norman Tebbit’s views on Chairman Gordo. For once I think The Chingford Cuntstick is totally right, fairplay to him: Brown is the political heir to Thatcher, whereas Cameron is trying to be the political heir to Blair. Thoughts?

We appear to be in a state of election madness. Will they, won’t they, will they, won’t they? Who knows, who cares? I’m not sure about you lot, but most people I know, myself included, are pretty apathetic at the prospect of a general election being called. That’s not to say I won’t turn up at the polling statio...

Do you think American politics have affected Britain more or less over recent years? What effect will the leadership change have this time around? Are you bothered? Who gets your vote? And if Joe the plumber lived in London do you think he’d mend your shower for less than £75 an hour plus bloody VAT?
