This is my favorite… The horse and mule, live 30 years, and know nothing of Wine and Beer… The goat and sheep, at 20 die, and never taste of Scotch and Rye… The cow drinks water by the ton, and at 18, is mostly done… The dog at 15, cashes in, without the aid of Rum and GinR...

I want to start a writer’s group where people can come and test out new scripts, bits of fiction, poetry…in fact writing of all kinds. I was thinking of going to a quiet pub and congregating in the corner to read and discuss work without being too mean or pulling our punches too much. I’ve go...

This might not be a particularly London-based phenomenon, but I wondered if anyone else here has received any strange flash-poetry emails from a source known only as Reiziger’s Poetry? I’ve had three emails from this source, and the first was addressed to me by name so I doubt it’s random spamming....

If anyone is a fan of poetry, John Keats and the romantic poets or just fans of the theatre a new play starts next week at The Putney Arts Theatre, which is a dramatical interpretation of Keats’s brief life. http://www.putneyartstheatre.org.uk/

Yes, we know you’ll be nursing sore heads from the FCL meet-up the night before, but on Friday 13th April 2007 (lucky for some!), we will publish Issue 50 of Litro – the friendly, non-invasive species of freesheet, which features some damn fine short fiction each week. You lovely, literate lot are inv...

I used to mess around in this sort of scene back in Brighton, and despite the obvious cringey moments I have some fond memories of it all… anyone know any good nights for this sort of thing, so I can see if I’m looking at my memories with rose tinted specs or if there is something in it?

A flyer fell out of Saturday’s Guardian about ‘Lates’, a season of after-hours art and culture in London running through May. It features loads of late-night events at some of our top arts venues including the ICA, the V&A, Tates Modern and Britain, the Southbank Centre and more. The one tha...

I have Googled this, but without some sort of recommendation, it’s a bit arduous to try and go to the 20 or so venues in and around London to find the best one: So, I put it to my learned friends: Where is the best café/bar for one to go and see live poetry readings? A few words of context. I’ve never done ...

Look. I don’t want fights or slanging matches, but isn’t everyone here a bit too nice? Everyone seems to have the same opinions and exists in affable conviviality. The most exciting this to happen on FCL so far was Pond drunkenly insulting a newbie. So come on, let’s have some attitude. Insult me i...

I’m off to an awards do tonight (nothing exciting – it’s for finance journos) and am currently practising my “I’m not bitter that I didn’t win” face. It made me wonder have you ever won an award and what was it? As far as I can remember the only prizes I’ve ever won...
