Walking along the Regent’s Canal the other day we started talking about how cool it would be to use it to get people to and from the Olympics. Our plan was that it could serve Paddington and King’s Cross, possibly with other stops at the zoo, Camden, Angel and Hackney.
On the plus side, I can’t imagine it would c...

Now I couldn’t really give a toss about the ‘lympics apart from the thought of male gymnasts in lycra, but what I am concerned about is the fact that Londoners are footing the bill via council tax payments. So I was wondering how much we actually pay – say for example annual council tax of £1200 &...

Obviously with the Olympics coming up they want to include something with a local flavour – at which obviously British athletes would be able to excel. I’m thinking either darts, or the 200 meter mountain bike pavement dash and mobile phone snatch. Anyone else think of a sport that is definitively London?

I’m against the whole idea myself. And I’ve yet to hear any really convincing arguments to persuade me otherwise. So please, Fridaycitizens, tell me, why are the bloody Olympics such a Good Thing?

I’m on the TFL email list and they sent through this today. I know what an opinionated lot we all are, especially when it comes to London and how it should be run, so thought others would appreciate it.

Seeing as we’re going to end up paying such a high price in oh so many ways during the run-up to the 2012 Olympics, has anybody got any smart ideas that they’re willing to share for making a pile of money during the event?

I don’t usually do petitions, but I did sign this one today, which is against Lottery money being sucked from the arts and small organisatons and being used to bridge the gap in lottery funding. Sign, discuss etc.

I’ve heard tell (not that I necessarily believe it) that the 2012 Olympic Committee have decided not to have a Red Arrows fly-past as part of the 2012 Olympics celebrations because “it’s too militaristic”. Now, I’m sure that this is The Sun and The Mail getting their knickers unnecessar...

The Olympic Torch Relay is all over the news this morning for the wrong reasons as far as the organisers and host country are concerned. Was the police presence over egged or was security not tight enough? Were the pro-Tibetan demonstrators treated unfairly and corralled into tight corners when pro-Chinese people were allowed to freely line the streets and wave their flags? Can you separate Olympic values from that of its host country? Did anyone actually see the Olympic flame anyway? And did the Sugababes get all girlie and bottle it at the last minute? Read More

Just a week after we were all taken aback that work on the Olympic stadium had begun ahead of schedule, its fate is being discussed with potential hosts of the next Games and the idea mooted to recycle its seats for reuse in 2016. Read More

At the close of the Beijing Olympics, there will be 8 minutes of bewonderment which will see Becks kicking children balls, Bozza waving a flag and Leona Lewis singing about the mean streets of Hackney while popping out of a double decker bus. At the cost of a cool £2 million. GO TEAM LONDON!

A tedious survey from a government department we’d barely heard of has concluded that kids in the UK know little to nothing about the 2012 Olympic Games coming their way.

We may not have a freaky medal machine like Michael Phelps up our sleeves, but there is one activity the English will never be bettered at: moaning. While China explodes in a really quite over-the-top performance of national pride, a new survey shows that Brits aren’t that bothered about the 2012 Olympics taking place right here in the capital. Apart from moaning, if the forthcoming festival of short shorts and sweating was to reflect the less sporty aspects of modern London life, what would the events be? The 100 metre dash for the bus? Shopping bag lifting? Mugging? One metre snorting? Boozing? Egging Boris?

The main athletics stadium for the 2012 Games is years away from completion, yet the project’s post-2012 fate has suffered more slings and arrows of outrageous rumour than your average Fawlty Towers cast member’s granddaughter. Stories that it could become West Ham’s new home, see its seats shipped to the 2016 host city, or even be demolished, have all been given a thorough airing and then sent back to the dry cleaners.
