I am having a hen do in london in June and would like to go to venue that serves decent food and live rock /band music and doesn’t rip you off. I am not looking for a place that is set up for hen do’s (ie Roadhouse in covent garden) as I am not planning to dress up in a wedding dress with an L-plate on m...

For some reason I have a yearning to play the steel drums. What would be really fun, would be to find somewhere lots of people get togeter with strange and unusual instruments and make noise! Nice noise, mind you… Does anyone know of anywhere in SW London? I don’t have an interesting or unusual instrumen...

I’ve read with interest that Burlesque nights are making a comeback; a friend of mine went to the Whoopie Club at the Hackney empire. It sounds like just the ticket for a fun night out, but I can’t find details of any upcoming events in London. Does anyone have any suggestions of websites/venues to try? ...

Where's a good place to hear live jazz?

Anyone know any good venues playing live jazz? Not big name gigs, just resident or semi-pro bands. Somewhere nice and relaxing, not pretentious. Sort of place full of smoke and a singer who sounds like they’ve swallowed razor blades. Tables with candles and 50 different whiskeys. Damned if I know where such pl...

I’m looking to play some of my own accoustic tunes and was looking for any open mic nights in London, preferably central if possible, but any help anyone can give would be much appreciated. Have played plenty of open mic nights but just looking for some new places to try and hone my talent (well, people tell m...

Where are the best jukeboxes in London?

What are the best pub jukeboxes in the capital? To set the ball rolling, I’d say the Endeavour (Berwick Street) has a pretty fab one, covering all the bases from good populist numbers through to some fabulous obscurities. The Boogaloo up Highgate way is good too, but a bit too chin-strokey (‘Mmm, great, ...

If any of you like a bit of quality banging techno, I’d definitely recommend Club 414 in Coldharbour Lane in Brixton. I had me a quality 30th there a couple of weeks ago. Left at 4am but it goes on until 6am, ears had stopped ringing come Wednesday… pedal power

Good, music and dance oriented club night in London...?

In Ibiza, there are some great club nights where it is all about the music, the dancing, and the atmosphere – however I have failed to find a night like this in London. I am looking for a club night with decent house music (particularly ‘sexy house’); less 18 year olds than many London nights se...

Does anybody know of any decent Northern Soul nights in town? Apart from the occasional one-off nights at the Jazz Cafe and 101club are there any regular nights where this music reigns supreme?’

I refuse to believe there isn’t a genius 80s club night in London. Not cheesy – just full on 80s classic! Anyone know of such a night?!

Simple question really. I heard it’s going to be destroyed after having been sold off for about £24million to some property developers… some have said it’s going to be turned into offices or a shopping centre (the people that bought it own the buildings next to it too), well, it’s not going ...

Apart from the obvious ones like: BarFly, Dublin Castle etc. etc. I’m talking about the kinda place where you can watch an emerging band with a reasonable following. Not like the Dog & Duck in the back end of nowhere….! Zone 1-3 only please. Fanx.

I was just reading about a new(ish) rock history tourist guide that lists “locations associated with some of the greatest musicians and bands from the 50s to present day”. It sounded interesting, but sadly it’s rubbish. Here’s a link, although I wouldn’t bother clicking unless you don’t know where Abbey Road Studios...

Does anyone know where are the best clubs to go to on a Saturday night if you wanna dance like a crazy fool to such classics as the Jackson Five, The Weathergirls and other dubious musical talents? Ideally it would be somewhere South East, but Central is good too if the place is truly cheese-tastic!

There are innumerable things that I don’t like about my job, but this isn’t one of them: the ability to see and listen to other people’s iTunes collections. There’s about a dozen of us so the musical tastes vary quite a lot, but the best thing about it is the names people give to their collec...

I’m just trying to remember the worst nights out I’ve had in London. Unfortunately most of them involve stumbling into places the worse for wear and realising you’re in a pit of dickwads who all look the same, all do the same drugs, all want the same substandard dance music etc etc, so I can’...

I seem to have been inflicting my unfortunate limited warblings on the karaoke venues of london town a little in recent times (not my fault guv – assorted work dos, hen dos and what a to dos…). It got me to wondering after a particularly marvellous soiree at Lucky Voice last week (no stroppy waiters, ...
