“Don’t get me started on Ken blahdy Livingstone”. As many a cab driver has said.
Even though I agree with a lot of his viewpoints, I disagree with his use of his platform to express them on behalf of London. Moreover, it bothers me that he seems to be getting some sort of ‘London treasur...

The mayoral elections won’t be taking place until June 2008, but let’s start the ball rolling now. Who would make London’s best Mayor? James Whale? John Bird? Shagger Norris? Sian Berry of the Green Party? They’ve all indicated that they will or might stand.

I’m on the TFL email list and they sent through this today. I know what an opinionated lot we all are, especially when it comes to London and how it should be run, so thought others would appreciate it.

On the BBC site today, news that the Tories in the Lords have sought to restrict the number of terms the London mayor can serve to two. Pretty obvious to me that they know they won’t be able to win the mayoral elections next year, so they’re looking to remove Ken by legislation.

Following on a bit from the Is Ken a dictator thread, and the smoking ban thread, there’s this article on BBC about Ken urging the reduction in patio heaters
Just another dig at smokers, or an important message about reducing energy demands?

I for one would be all for it, if for no other reason than surely we deserve a mayor with more personality than a used teabag. Yes, old Boris can be a bit of a tit. But let’s face it, in these times, we could all do with something to giggle about.
Discuss.

I really don’t know the answer to this, but I’m sure another FCL’er does.
I have this horrible suspicion that it might well be restricted to people who actually live in London. If this is so, is it fair? I don’t think it is because of the tens of thousands of people who commute in every da...

Having previously interviewed Sian Berry, the standard-bearer for the Greens now currently in a pact (electoral, not economic or suicide we assume) with Labour’s Ken Livingstone, Londonist sent a set of common questions out to (most of) the other candidates in the May 1st mayoral election. Has the final wheel come off Boris Johnson’s ‘New Routemaster’ policy? The good thing about it was that it came with a promise to restore conductors to the routes currently served by the bendy buses Johnson wants to replace: a bus with a conductor is a friendlier bus, a friendlier bus is a
safer bus and so on. Problem is, Johnson has no grip on the economics of the plan, even weeks after he first came unstuck on the subject. Read More

That’s the partisan message from Londonist today as Londoners go to the polling stations to choose their next mayor and members of the London Assembly. As we write we are reliably informed that a new YouGov poll for today’s Evening Standard will show Boris Johnson heading for victory over Ken Livingstone by six percent of the vote after electors’ second preferences are taken into account. But any news-stand message on our streets later today implying that The Tory is coasting to victory should be ignored. Read More

I just read in the London Lite that Ken is due to host a radio talk show in the afternoons on LBC.
We should call in on behalf of KCL. Maybe on a weekly basis.
What would be your first question for Ken?

Bozza’s press team weren’t daft, dreaming up that document title, were they? Look at that headline; pats on the back all round and this isn’t even the strategy proper. No, Way To Go! (exclamation mark and all) is the precursor to Johnson’s transport strategy – the Blond Vision, if you will. Your comments are welcome and the “consultation will last for 10 weeks” to help shape the Mayor’s formal strategy. Read More
