Apart from the obvious ones like: BarFly, Dublin Castle etc. etc. I’m talking about the kinda place where you can watch an emerging band with a reasonable following. Not like the Dog & Duck in the back end of nowhere….! Zone 1-3 only please. Fanx.

I’m about to book a ticket for Tori Amos at the Apollo but the seating plan isn’t very specific. Does anyone know which is better – ‘orchestra stalls’ or ‘dress circle’? Are they both seated? ta x
premiumQuestion of the Day: What was your favourite London-based gig of all time?

Congratulations to all the lucky FCLers who got their hands on tickets to see the Spice Girls at the O2. Tickets which, apparently, sold out in 38 seconds. It’s always nice to see a lottery where even the winners are losers. So, today’s question of the day is this: what is the single best gig you̵...

I saw these guys a year ago when my daughter dragged me to an Aiden concert (I wouldn’t let her go on her own). Aiden were pants but this band were great. Really good punk stuff. Go here to hear some of their stuff: Dirtbox Anyway, Dirtbox are looking for places to perform in London. (And a manager, possibl...

Anyone know any 'Backstage Legends'?

Hullo. right. Backstage legends – what the roadie saw. I remember at the Exit Festival in Serbia, 2005, the chat was that Iggy Pop requested a bunch of dwarves backstage – purpose: unidentified. And the Rolling Stones/Ozzy/Axyl have probably trumped that on every level. What other outrageous things do...

Music venue wasteland that is East London

for some reason, East London is a desert wasteland when it comes to decent gig venues. The Hackney Empire does its best but tends to be focused on theatre. Whenever I want to see a band I have to trek over to the wilds of Sarf London or West London, and then getting home is a nightmare (track maintenance = closures ...

Unfortunately Mrs SFULG and I have to miss Benicassim this year due to last minute unavoidable work commitments. So it’s with a heavy heart that I have to sell our tickets. They’re for the whole weekend plus camping. Last year’s festival was possibly the best festival I’ve been to, and this y...

Do you let pushers-in at standing gigs?

“Can you let me through, you’re taller than I am” was a reason given at a gig I went to on Saturday night by a girl pushing her way through to the front… as she was followed by two in-no-way short blokes in tow, who plonked themselves in front of me. Other apologies in similar circumstances a...

Who wants to come to some random gigs?

Yes, another FCL group. The ‘Lets Go Out, Get Really Drunk and Mosh to Bands That We’ve Never Heard Of’ group. Or ‘LGOGRDMBTWNHO’ for short. The plan is to randomly pick a music venue, like the Mean Fiddler, or Barfly, or maybe Chalk at Scala and just turn up to watch who ever happens to be playing. Who’s with...

OK, here’s the idea. Having just tripped over Babb’s idea about going to see random bands at a pre-determined venue – it’s reminded of how much effort it can be to find people to go see gigs at times. I miss the whole gang thing of going to gigs, not just one or two people, but a whole see...

As previous conversations have shown, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to oppurtunities to see live music – go to any lisitings site and you get loads of random bands to choose from. But which are the good ones? I thought this might be a good forum for people to share the good bands they’ve see...

Could anyone recommend some interesting bands?

I’m really getting back into gigs at the moment so some recomendations from some fellow FCLers would be great. I kind of like rock/electro/punk/nu rave/grime/trip hop/jazz/folk so I’m quite open to trying new things.

I love this band so very, very much and they are playing London Imperial College on 15th May. Last time they played London was at 93ft East and they were aces. Really intense live show. They’re not for everyone (the musical equivalent of a psychological horror movie) but if anyone wants to come along it&...
