Is there anyone worse than MFI?

I know this is probably better suited to Watchdog, and the company in question will probably try and sue me for libel or something, but what the heck. Last August I was stupid enough to order a kitchen from MFI. My kitchen is only tiny, less then 2m square, but nevertheless it has taken them nine months to finish...

Does anyone fancy building a desk?

I’ve just had my loft converted and I’m desperately looking to have a desk made up to go with it. However I need a computer desk that converts into a desk for my decks. I’ve got a bit of a design worked out and figure I just need a good carpenter to help me get it built. However, what I’d lo...

So, I’ve finally got – after three months – my flat almost how I want it. My pictures are hung, my fridge is stocked, broadband is (almost) connected. I’m very pleased with myself, given how little time I spend there. The only thing I’m lacking is a sofa. I just want something simple...

Where can you buy doors?

Ideally I’d like second hand or salvaged internal and front doors, but new doors would be a start. Obviously, not fussed about B&Q/Homebase/IKEA/Habitat etc. – but somewhere else, ideally west london or even out of town is fine. I basically want to find a load of doors etcetera in a tucked away gem o...

Pond and I were talking earlier and we’ve decided that we really do like our new office. It’s nice. But at the moment it’s totally bare. This is the stage bit. Or “the breakout area” – we’re gonna put a little coffee table up there with some bean bags (or some sofas i...

I’m currently looking for a tough old desk for working on. Preferably something completely unfashionable like G plan or old brown Victorian furniture, the sort of thing that lasts until you have to hit it with an axe to make firewood. I don’t want ikea, so I wonder if anyone knows of a good secondhand...

If you’d like a free double futon, and can collect it from NW10, it’s yours. White heavy duty cotton, and a timber base painted black. A couple of tears and marks in the material, but put a throw over it and it will make an ideal spare room bed-settee type thing.

I know loads of people hate Ikea, but I have a soft spot for the place and it clearly fulfills a role. That said, when it comes to furniture, one cannot live by Ikea alone. I’m currently after a few odds and ends and looking for new and interesting places to get modern, contemporary furniture that doesn’...
