And where is the worst? Are there any areas that are like really really bad traffic-wise? And are there any really peaceful, easy-to-learn areas, with very low accident incidence rates?

Do you want to learn how to drive?

I learnt to drive last year, at the grand old age of 30/31. Loads of people seemed to think it was really weird not being able to drive at that age, but having lived in west-centralish London all my life (well-served by public transport) plus coming from a car-free family (financial decision, rather than ethical ...

Is there a congestion conspiracy?

Interesting fact. TfL is actually creating congestion to encourage belief that the congestion zone is good. Traffic lights are staying on red longer and green shorter to build up traffic. If you ring TfL and complain they always say “It’s a fault” and it goes back to how it was for a few weeks befo...

Myself and the missus work in town and normally drive with our three year old in her work (she’s a teacher so gets a parking space). While we’d love to be all environmentally friendly and not drive, we feel we have to because travelling with a kid on London’s public transport is a nightmare. When w...

Every evening, as I walk to Baron’s Court tube, I see numerous cars come down Talgarth Road out of Hammersmith, turn into Gliddon Road and proceed to do uturns then head back the way they came. It’s happening too often to be the usual kind of “crap, I’ve taken a wrong turn!”. Is there j...

Is one of my favourite things. Sorry, not really a point for discussion, but definitely an observation. Don’t you just love it, though?

Has anyone ever phoned those numbers on the back of vans?

You know the ones I mean, where they say ‘How am I driving?’ This morning, I stopped to let a van out of a side road, and then realised that he was on his mobile phone. I think there’s no excuse for this. If I can buy a handsfree kit then he jolly well can too. Anyway, when he had pulled in...

I just signed up to drive a knackered VW Beetle across South America – from Quito, Ecuador, to Rio, Brazil, next February. It’s for what I think is a very worthy cause, Fundecruz, a charity set up by Ulises De la Cruz, the Ecuadorian/Reading footballer. To take part, we have to raise a minimum of 500 pou...

Driving around Waltham Forest today I spotted a rather old and tatty green honda being driven by an older gentleman with an incredible snowy white beard and matching shoulder length hair. My immediate thought was “cripes! it’s father christmas”, but as we all know he is busy in the north pole prep...

These are: 1. Hanger Lane Gyratory System, west London 3. Marble Arch, central London 4. Elephant and Castle, south London Are they really that daunting? What about trying to join the A4/M4 in West London? Or the gyratory thing around Aldgate? Or the Green Man roundabout in Leytonstone? Honestly! Have...

Just an idea at the moment, but there’s still tickets available for the EXIT festival in Serbia from Thursday July 6th until Sunday July 9th. I fancy driving over there in some sort of van – possibly buy an old banger off eBay, drive it over and back, then re-sell it when we get back. Tickets are 7...

My daughter is desperate not to have to rely on her parents to be ferried about, and wants us to buy her driving lessons so that can use our car or, better still, we buy her a brand new car of her own. No, of course she’s not living in the real world. She’s a teenager. But I thought it might be good t...

I got a call from ‘a friend’ this morning and was hoping one of you could help me advise her… Her dad called her at the crack of I’m not awake yet to ask her for a favour. He’s been caught on yet another speed camera and with this fine will be on 11 points (all acquired this year). H...

My friend is running a major art installation in Liverpool but has been let down by a man and a van to pick up a load of sculptures and stuff in London on Sunday and then drive it all up to Liverpool. So, do you know of any cheap man and (large) van type persons who would be willing to do this, or better still, d...
