Can anyone help me?! We’re starting a netball team at work, but would like a quick practice session before our first game as some of us haven’t played in ages – does anyone know of any pitches (preferably in close proximity to the city as some of us have a long commute home after work so would like...

While broswing Wikipedia I was interested to note that the boffins at London Underground have decided that travelling on the Waterloo & City line is far too pleasant. So, they’ve decided to insall mobile phone coverage. Super. Not only does this seem entirely fucking pointless (it’s only a 5 minut...

My European colleagues (mainly French but also a German, Italian and Spaniard, as well as Brits) are coming over to London for a workshop and celebration of completion of a project during the second week of December, and I would like to arrange for a couple of activities to show off this fine city – very excit...

On the ground around various buildings in the City are these litle gold buttons (for want of a better descriptor!) around the base of the buildings. Some are close to the bottom, and others about 2 metres out. I would like to know what these are for… Are they some way of demonstrating exactly how much land is ...

There is a free exhibition of Damien Hirst’s latest work at All Hallows Church on London Wall until middle of April – details here – http://www.wallspace.org.uk/ Something different to do for a lunchtime if you work in the city. Haven’t been there yet, but it has got to be better than eat...

After reading the various conversations about what’s on this Easter, I had a quick browse round the Visit London site. Under Special Events they have something called City Chase. It’s not until July, but it looks like it could be great fun: http://www.visitlondon.com/whats_on/special_events/city_chase.ht...

I’m organising a small (6 people) business meeting over drinks in the evening. So I’m looking for a bar in the city (sort of midway between ludgate circus and liverpool street) where there isn’t music booming out all night long and where I can book a table. Somewhere fairly upmarket and not too t...

Where is a nice place to eat outside ... without pigeons?

Prompted by WillTheUnwise’s recent post about eating outside, I have an additional question – I am so scared of pigeons – it’s bad enough walking down the street with them attacking me (perhaps that is slightly paranoid) – but as the weather warms up people want to eat outside, and it...

The Evening Standard headline, this afternoon. Makes you wonder who (or what) exactly is in charge of the flood barrier? Perhaps you have a favourite newspaper headline that’s either amusing or just weird. Here’s one I remember from the weird category. Police door crash man escapes blast.

The City of London (aka the Square Mile) has plenty of streets and alleys but, I’m told, not one of them is a ‘Road’. Take a look at the map. I’ll give 20 kudos to anyone who knows why this might be. 20 kudos to whoever comes up with the most entertaining/ingenious made up reason And 30 ku...

By now the inhabitants of the square mile and canary wharf must be feeling pretty fed up, pilloried, dissed, widely blamed for all the ills of the world. Anyone feel sorry for them? even a little bit? do you think some ducks would cheer them up, now the bulls and bears have all run to the hills with our pension fund...
