Hi
Before hibernating, we want to start outdoors activities like hiking and biking… but I can’t find a good site with trails and so on… Anyone got any ideas? Or links?
Thanks

In Forest hill there is a nature reserve on Devonshire road (se23) which is open to the public for the nature trail the last sunday of every month (or something like that) not sure what it is like because I have never been so it could just be a glorified allotment but you never know.
If it’s not that great there is also the Horniman museum down the road which has great grounds which are maintained by the same people as Kew gardens. The museum isn’t bad itself and its free.
Not sure if its what your looking for but I try.

TFL publish a load of cycling trails here. They’re mainly tow paths and stuff, though. If you’re looking for something a bit more demanding then you’ll probably have to get out of London.

For hiking, try the Ramblers Association – it’s not all septuagenarians in woolly socks! Their website has plenty of suggestions of places to go walking. There are also many local Ramblers groups in London, including the Metropolitan Walkers, which is aimed at people in their 20s and 30s. These organise regular group walks, which are great if you’re getting to know an area or would like to walk with other people: no navigation required!
Or pick up a copy of the Time Out books of Country Walks- they’re quite easy to follow.
The Central London CTC is a good place to start for on-road cycling.
Sorry you’ll have to Google all these things! I don’t know how to add hyperlinks on this website.

The TimeOut Guide to Country Walks is very good. It’s written for people who live in London and gives very clear, (fairly) idiot-proof instructions on getting to the walk and the walk itself. Lots of walks/hikes of different levels and lengths and all of them are set up so that you’re at a good pub at lunchtime.

I recently completed the Capital Ring – chose 5 sunny days to do it (not consecutive) and in terms of seeing the full spectrum of London both geographically and socially it gets a huge recommendation from me…

That looks great, thanks Quagga.

You didn’t stipulate what kind of biking you were after. MTB wise, the chocolatefoot website has a link to the Esher Shore and also a route for the 4 lumps near Box Hill.
For roadie stuff, bike radar has quite a few routes listed in and around London.
Finally, if you own a Garmin GPS unit, you can use their garmin connect service to download routes to follow.
