when and where have you seen the most beautiful sight in london – a perfect camera moment – that isn’t on the standard tourist trail, i.e. the eye etc etc.

It would have made a great still but in fact it was a tracking shot from a football match at the Emirates. Arsenal were playing someone or other and the camera went to a crowd reaction shot. There in the crowd I saw two women, both in their early twenties, both in Arsenal shirts, both smiling and cheering madly and clearly good friends with each other. One was white and one was Asian.

I remember that image much more than the game itself.

Best view of London for me was from the resuarant at the top of BT Tower, it still revolves slowly so stand still and let London revolve round you. not only a good view but a nice feeling.

It’s not to everyone’s taste but I quite like the view from Plumstead Common. It looks down over the industrial parts of South East London, including the sewage works.

The function room at the top of the BT Tower may occasionally still rotate, but it has been closed to the public since 1980. Only BT staff ever get to see the view from there and even fewer experience the room revolving, although something remarkably similar can be experienced in any licensed premises if you put your mind to it.

Curiously, the BT Tower didn’t exist until 1993. There’s one for the pub quiz.

I’m always taken by the view of the City Point building walking through the Barbican towards Moorgate above Silk Street…

I quite like the view when taking someone up the Oxo tower. Invigorating, I think is the word to best describe it.

I consider it a personal mission. Can I finagle an Oxo reference into every thread. Incidentally, you’re good with words. Does the word subfuterage exist? If so, how do you spell it?

BNM – I know the tower restaurant only revolves at certain times, I knew the man in charge of the Tower.

Also that until 1993 it was classified as secret and not included on maps – how something that sticks out like a sore thumb in London can be secret I’ll never know. Still that’s government for you.

I used this London fact in a pub quiz I put together last month, no one got it!
