So on a handful of front doors in west London (including one in my street) there is chalked “KMB 2008”. The writing is always at the very top of the door. Does anyone know what this means? A marking by property developers? Funeral directors? Drug dealers? It’s very odd.

Did you make that up?

What? No.

KMB 2008 is an American ebay seller. That probably doesn’t help you at all, though.

Kaspar Melchior Balthazar followed by the year
The Three Kings
It’s something which is done in Southern Germany (Central Europe?) on Twelth Night I think. A bit like first footing in Sotland. I don’t know the details but a web search may well help.

What? No
Sorry, confusion.
Someone replied to your thread before I did, with a highly implausible explanation about a tall bloke banging his head. I asked if they’d made it up and now their reply has disappeared, so it looked like I was questioning you.
Weird.
