Somewhere to eat near the Thames?

My boyfriend and I have our 1 years anniversary coming up and as the weathers been so nice we were thinking it would be lovely to have lunch somewhere around the Thames, watching all the boats go by and so on. We’re not looking for somewhere really extravagant and equally we’d like something a bit nicer then a greasy spoon. Is there anywhere round there that would fit in between? I’ve seen some of those restaurants on boats and something like that would be perfect but we don’t want to stretch our purses too much! Any help will be greatly appreciated. :-)

mmmm, the restaurant at the top of the tate is nice, not toooo expensive for lunch and the view is amazing. Also, if it rains which it happens to do occaisionally you wont get wet. AANNDD theres pictures to look at if you get bored of each other or have a row… oo and slides.

There are some great pubs along narrow street in limehouse that give you nice views of the river. The food in The Grapes is really good and it’s one of the oldest pubs in london (along with a thousand other pubs). I was going to recommend the Narrow Street Pub but apparently it’s being renovated by gordon ramsey – so I’ve no idea if it’s open yet, or what the prices will be like! it used to be a great summertime hang out.

Aww – congrats!

There’s a reasonable Italian place at Gabriel’s Wharf, although I can’t remember the name off hand. The brasserie at the OXO tower is another option.

If you want to go a bit further out of town, there are various pubs along the river in Putney/Richmond sort of areas, where you could sit outside.

Hope you manage to find somewhere lovely. :)

I’ve had some nice meals at the restaurant at the Globe – fantastic views of the river and I think as the theatre’s not open at the moment they do cheaper deals – had one of the best treacle tarts since my Aunt stopped making them

Which restaurant do you walk downhill to enter and downhill to exit? One on the Thames! (Which you entered during low tide and stayed there a long time and exited during high tide and got a bit drunk and so were momentarily taken aback by this change of altitude/perspective.)

Such a restaurant is H2O on the Thames at Richmond. It’s a bit of a trek from Camden, but it is your special day. Make it one to remember.

There isn’t the river traffic you get further downstream, but there again you don’t get tourist prices.

Further along the Thames is the Petersham Nurseries cafe here: petershamnurseries.com/cafeandteahouse.asp

It’s much more expensive but Richard E Grant goes there. Or should that be AND goes there.

There is a lovely Thai restuarant at the Thames end of Hays Galleria – called Kwan Thai. Ask for a window seat or if the weather improves (hmmm, it is snowing today) then you can sit outside. Really fab for summer.
