OK, the timing may be a bit off, but if you fancy shooting guns the NRA have an event in London on May 5th. I can’t wait.

If we get the chance to shoot members of the NRA, I can’t wait either.

Well said. What a totally and utterly hideous post.

BMN, damn right.

Oh for goodness sake, don’t be so precious the three of you. I didn’t choose the timing of the shootings, and I didn’t choose the timing of the event. If I wait for a “sensible” period of time to elapse, the event will have happened. If you aren’t interested, don’t go. Some people will be interested, and so this event will be of interest to them. Grow up.

mechris, i’m not 100% sure about this but i don’t think the issue is with the timing…it’s probably more that the NRA are fucking cunts who promote a trade that deals almost entirely in human pain and misery.

having said that i do quite fancy shooting a gun so i guess you could say i was somewhat conflicted.

muchodisastro – Good, someone with a bit of perspective. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about the NRA, but also fancy shooting a gun (same as I also fancy driving a sports car, going water skiing and any number of other things). I figured that some other people would also like to shoot a gun, and it was for their benefit that I mentioned the event. Quite frankly the fact that it is the NRA (and the NRA of Great Britain, so may not even be connected with Charlton Heston’s organisation) had not occurred to me. I didn’t really expect sarky comments from 3 self righteous members anxious to prove how right-on they are.

What you dint expect criticism for your post, fuck right off i dont belive that! Oh and i’ve shot guns before, i even have a cadet marksman, but the NRA are still insenstive toss bags!

MeChris, your timing is neither here nor there it’s the NRA’s that’s shocking. I sincerely hope this is not still going ahead. If so it’s a fucking scandal.

I think it probably will. Didn’t the NRA host a big event in Colorado immediately after Columbine? Yes, I think they did. But don’t mind me…

Hang on…

Is this the same NRA as the US one? Or is it a Surrey based target shooting club, that just happens to share the same name as a bunch of trigger-happy crypto-fascists?

what can i say mechris…i do have strong feelings about the NRA. i fucking hate them. the organisation is generally populated with right wing fucking blowhards who wouldn’t understand the idea of tolerance if it climbed into the breach of a combat shotgun and blasted itself into their skulls. and i don’t necessarilly think that someone who voices a negative opinion the NRA is being self-righteous. the arms trade is, for the most part, thoroughly vile and utterly worthy of contempt and part of me would be happy if the event didn’t take place. it’s just that part of me also agrees with the idea of the right to bear arms. maybe i’m being naive. like i say…i got no answers…i’m conflicted.

I have no idea what the motives of the UK NRA are, so I’ll avoid that particular topic, but I will say hoorah for German Bierfests.

It really wasn’t a sarky comment, MeChris. I actually meant it.

I wasn’t trying to get personal but expressing my opinion, which doesn’t really make me self-righteous but just someone with an opinion; one I’m as entitled to as you are to yours. I stand by what I said, and I support what BNM said, because I’m pretty upset by what’s happened today.

If it’s a little perspective you value, then perhaps leaving this post until a couple of weeks down the line would have been preferable.

Is this the same NRA as the US one?

That’s neither here nor there, is it? I don’t care who they are, they should have the sensitivity to wait a decent interval after a gun massacre before having their fun and games.

and regardless of what motives the uk body shares with the us one, the primary focus is still the promotion of firearm usage.

exactly. why dont you just go dancing instead its more fun and it doesnt promote gun use and availabilty at an insensitive time. and if you knew that it was a bad time to post tis why not wait a few weeks was it really so important to spread the news of the event right now?

It doesn’t look like the UK NRA has much to do with the US one.

Still, you could have waited like a week to post?

Just so you see where I’m coming from… Surely they didn’t announce it today? Should probably be called off, in any case, which does sort of make me wonder about why this was posted here – today.

The reason I think the distinction’s important is precisely because I agree with everything said about the US NRA. But if they are distinct from the US organisation, then they’d probably agree with the condemnation of the US NRA too. And conflating the two seems like having a go at a chefs’ convention because someone got stabbed.

In any case, really bad taste to post, and I feel distinctly off about bumping this…
