Regular Sunday roasts in East London?

Some friends and I decided that doing a Sunday Roast at a pub would be a good / reasonably cheap way of getting everyone together. We all live around East and North-East London (London Fields, Hackney, Dalston, Stoke Newington) but I have no idea which places do a good roast and which don’t.

So far, the only place I have is The Fox on Kingsland Road. We were hoping to make this a regular occurrence and for that we need a list of places that do a good Sunday Roast…

I haven’t eaten the roast there, but maybe try the Pembury?

I haven’t had sunday lunch there, but have heard tell that the Owl and the Pussycat in Redchurch Street do a good sunday roast. Also the Cat and Mutton in Broadway Market isn’t bad for food, though I don’t know if they do the traditional roast.

Hmm, seems to be a Cat theme going on…

Why don’t you try a different place every Sunday?

The Eddie in Stratford. My mouth’s watering just thinking about their roast beef. You have to walk through shitsville Stratford to get to it, but its a lovely pub once you get there!

The North Star on New North Road is supposed to be outstanding.

purpaboo – that’s the plan! Maybe we will settle on a regular once we have found something outstanding but for now.. it’s going to be an exploration!

Have read some good things about the Keston Lodge http://trustedplaces.com/review/uk/london/bar/1n42b8p/keston-lodge

i used to live in Stoke Newington and the best one i found was the three crowns on the corner of the high street and church street. It gets busy but you can reserve a table and despite being on the pricier side it’s the 3rd best pub roast i’ve ever had.

(#1 the fire engine inn in Marazion; #2 the drum and monkey in Alderly Edge)

I’ve never tried the food there but usually the other punters in Keston Lodge are enough to put you off staying there for longer than a half.

The Easton, bit further west than you want, near Exmouth Market, does really good Sunday lunch, and is good for sitting around for hours with the papers. The Royal Oak on Columbia Road is meant to do a brilliant Sunday lunch.

The Marquess Tavern, just off the Essex Road, does a w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l Sunday lunch; the star attraction is a rib of beef with all the trimmings (yorkshire puds, veg, gravy), designed for groups of carnivores to tuck into it together. And, you can take the rib home and gnaw on it at your pleasure/make soup with it. They also always feature veggie things so any veggie friends wouldn’t be stuck. You will certainly need to book, though.

I’d second the Eddie in Stratford. You can get the 108 from Stoke Newington and it will drop you on the doorstep…
