Quietish bar in the City for corporate drinks?

I’m organising a small (6 people) business meeting over drinks in the evening. So I’m looking for a bar in the city (sort of midway between ludgate circus and liverpool street) where there isn’t music booming out all night long and where I can book a table. Somewhere fairly upmarket and not too trendy, it’s for 40 something suits. Initially thought of Cellar Gascon but the bastards there wont let me book a table. Also thought of the Wine Library at Tower Hill but my boss thinks that’s too far away. So any suggestions along these lines please?

Not nearly as interesting as either of those two, but the bar at Bond’s (Threadneedle Street) is fairly decent, certainly quiet, and won’t scare the horses (or businessmen) in terms of music or decor.

I’m shamelessly bumping this.

More towards Bank / Monument so might be a bit too far out of your way but ideal for 40 something suits….

No 1 Lombard Street.

Davy’s wine bar was pretty good for a quietish place last time I went and the staff were pretty friendly! http://www.davy.co.uk/main.asp?id=80_188_3051&tid=359b86e7d35b4d3abb8a5c2fa9713136

I can very much recommend Balls Bros. There’s one next to Tesco’s on Bishopsgate, another in Blomfield Street and numerous others. Most have rooms that you can book. They’re quiet, friendly and suitably upmarket, and they have a good wine list.
