Bit of spam: every Saturday night at the wonderful Page Two on Nunhead Lane, I and occasional guests have a DJ session that has the good side of pop at its core. It’s a great, great pub – comfy sofas and good food, but still with a colourful crowd of old regulars, and a lot of mingling between groups of people on a busy night – and the music is eclectic to say the least, but always paced to encourage dancing and singalongs… as examples, recent most popular anthems include Michael Viners Incredible Bongo Band ‘Apache’ / Altern8 ‘Infiltrate 202’ / Sex Pistols ‘Pretty Vacant’ / Turtles ‘Happy Together’ / Monkees ‘Last Train To Clarksville’ / Amy Winehouse ‘Rehab’ / Talking Heads ‘Once In A Lifetime’ / Fleetwood Mac ‘Everywhere’ / Led Zep ‘Whole Lotta Love’ – you see what we’re aiming for? There is often dancing on tables, and it’s basically a gonzo booze up without there being leches, knobends and spongoes.

There’s a fine line between smutmonkeys, of which we have loads (one of my most fun memories was of a prim young couple coming in; 2 hours later one of our lairy regulars – a lady – was bumping and grinding on the table with the wife, while the husband beat them on the bottoms with a bunch of gladioli), and leches.

Spongoes is anyone I don’t like.

Another bump. Mamfer had a surprise romantic night out last week so didn’t make it but is definitely coming this week. The relaunch went with a bang, you’ll all be pleased to know, with lockin and mass dancing to soul classics til 3am.
