Proper running shoe shops?

So I got a ‘shin splint’ from running in worn out Nike Airs, so once that’s healed, I need to get some shoes that will properly protect my feet & legs from impact. I keep hearing about shops with magic treadmills that you run on and tell you what shoes you need. Are there any of these in S or SE London or will I need to go up to bloody Oxford Street or something? I really like the look of Asics shoes, for what that’s worth.

Hey Knid, that wasn’t you running last night around the top of Barry Road was it? I saw a bloke running there wot looked a lot like your picture.
They do the filming of your gait in the running shop in East Dulwich by the station. But the testosterone-fuelled rhetoric of the Aussie sales guy may blow you out the door before you even start running

Whatever you do, people, avoid the Sports World branch on North End Rd SW6. Astonishingly bad service. Worst service I had ever had anywhere. I had to practically wrestle them to the ground to get them to take my money and actually provide me with running shoes.
still bitter

Shin spint … oof.
It’s just north of the river, but The Jog Shop, 10 Harbour Exchange on the Isle of Dogs is good. Went there for my first pair of running shoes (Asics coincidentally!) that weren’t cast-offs from my multi-trainered friend. It’s not a huge shop but then how many pairs of trainers will you need to try on before finding a pair that suit you? Four in my case. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and gait-filming on treadmills a-go-go. The assistant even had me running up and down outside the shop (“Just to the pillar and back”).

a friend just recently got evaluated after running on a treadmill for the type of shoes she needs. I think she got them at sweat shop

I went to Lilywhites next to Piccadilly Circus and did the whole running thing on a treadmill.
Got a good pair of running shoes, but only problem was when I asked them if I could bring them back if they weren’t right, they said no, because I’d have used them. Weird!
Anyway, I still have them and they still work (!) fine about 5 years later

Place in Victoria called Run & Become is the business – they look at your running style and feet etc. www.runandbecome.com
And if you really want great service, I rate ProFeet in Fulham – they do bespoke moulded insoles and all sorts, plus checking where pressure falls on your feet, the full shebang. www.profeet.co.uk – they also do custom/bespoke ski boots if anyone’s interested (not quite the season I know but may be helpful at some point)

Thanks all. I went for Heftmaid’s suggestion cos it’s local – and I see what you mean about the brisk and macho attitude (though he’s a Saffa not an Aussie I think) but he knew his stuff and I feel like I’ve come away with good shoes (Asics as it goes though I went for what felt best rather than looks – actually they’re a bit white and minging, but they feel pretty good)... And no, Heftmaid, that wouldn’t have been me – I’ve not been out running since I did my injury 10 days ago.

I bought a pair last week from the nice ppl at “Runners Need” in Bishopsgate, they did the whole treadmill and video thingy to me, very educational.
ok its not in S or SE London, but the shoes currently are – and its only 15 mins walk from LB…
