Some of you may have noticed that some of your posts aren’t appearing on the site. This is because we’re trying to make sure that Fridaycities remains focused on London and the people in it. It’s looking really good at the moment and we want to avoid it deteriorating into another general forum. Before you say anything we know there are several posts that fall outside the ‘London sphere’ but we reserve the right to post quirky stuff we think the members will be interested in.

So does that explain why a post asking for help with tags on the website was deleted out of this area?

Ah fair enough….I did rather think that my desk spider might have been a BIT too random! Apologies for my meanderings. Will try to stay more focussed in future, miss.

NARDINI

Does this mean there might be a “Fridaycities – somewhere else” soon then?

I don’t think it would unduly dilute the London element of FCL if there were a “somewhere else” part to the site. Indeed, it might serve as a useful seive for all the off-topic bollocks.

yeah, London’s great and all but I don’t want to talk about it all day.

Let’s not lose perspective people. It’s not some sort of Fascist regime we’re trying to enforce. It’s just that we want to make sure that the site is useful/interesting/funny/relevant for all and that means having some (albeit broad) focus. When we say London we mean everything about the city itself and the people – loves, lives, relationships, aspirations etc…and in that respect there’s not all that much that is off topic. For those things that are it’s worth remembering that Fridaycities isn’t a forum. Sorry. There is however dedicated space on the profile pages for more general chat.

Nardini – you are a very wise man.

MokAsh – it broke my heart deleting the desk spider. Although actually I didn’t delete him I just put him in a matchbox and released him outside. He was ever so cute!

I was just wondering,

If I posted about the tube friday night, should I just assume its not going to go live now? Ah, and also, was there a particular reason for a post about a charity gig in Shepherds Bush being deleted- I guess that is what has happened, as its not on my watch list anymore- like others that didn’t go live (they stayed on watch list for ages then went). That gig was for a really good cause, and is london related!

I’m confused?

Perhaps there should be some sort of feedback system where the moderator gives a reason for not accepting a post? Not so that it can spark an argument, but so that the denied poster can learn why it wasn’t accepted & be aware of what might not be considered appropriate in the future?

and while I’m being all sensible & grown up with the suggestions, should the anonymous section remain? It does seem to contain the topics least London-orientated & elicit the most off topic banter & abuse.

Feedback on declined posts is a very good suggestion. We try to explain as often as possible but there are times when we just don’t get the chance. It’s really early days at Friday Towers and we’re pretty stretched. In future there will be some kind of automatic notification with very basic reasoning but in the meantime if anyone is concerned or confused as to why a particular post hasn’t gone up then they can always email me directly and I’ll explain.

What’s wrong with using the forums for off topic random shit? That’s what we’ve been doing for the last 5 years anyway. Plus there’s plenty of blog-o-rama sites for those who want everyone to know their every innermost brain fart.

Although that makes sense, the amount of ‘London’ topics are clearly running out. The 2007 LbL book contains about 50% the same content as the 2006 book. How disappointing for me and other people who have bought both books! Also the 10 commandments have been done before – see the 2006 book. So if this is all Friday Cities can come up with then maybe you should think about a forum for other stuff.

What about we start talking about Croydon and see if anyone notices then gradually creep outwards?

London’s OK but Paris is better. That’s why I live there.

Isn’t it to a large extent inevitably self-regulating? A thread topic that nobody is interested in won’t get responses. Hit a nerve and people join in.
