Pirate Birthday: Venue ideas for Scurvy Knaves?

My 30th birthday is coming up at the start of June, and rather than be downbeat and sorry for myself I am terribly glad just to make it to 30!
Therefore I am having a Pirate-themed pub-type shindig (I am already bidding on an excellent hat on eBay) where I will force all my mates to dress up as pirates and drink at a London pub allllllllll day long until we can no longer see, even without our eyepatches.

I was considering maybe The Anchor (near the Globe on the South Bank) or that one outside the Tate Modern. I want to be vaguely near a station, riverside, as central as I can get, and as piratey as possible (trendy and chic is out of the question). Or a pirate pub crawl would be good too…
And not the Queen Mary! I may never go back there again… :P
Any ideas, you filthy bilgerats?

How weird! I went to a pirate themed 30th on Saturday night and although it seems unlikely, the back bar of Lupo (which they write Lvpo) on the corner of Dean Street and Romilly Street was strangely appropriate – we had it to ourselves and had a sort of dark and candlelit feel, wooden floorboards, and a couple of chunky uprights that looks a little like masts.
Not riverside, I’ll concede, but central and reasonable priced drinks, or so I recall…. Might be worth a look….
By the way, as a result of being one of the last out the pub on Saturday night/Sunday morning, I have quite a considerable booty of Piratephernalia, should you be lacking a cutlass, let me know.
Aaaaargh

Web demons (or maybe web pirates) replicated this post several times. It really wasn’t interesting enough to read multiple times so I’ve tried to delete later incarnations. Annoyingly you can’t actually delete them. You have to write something in there, so sadly you still have to read some of this crap.

... but less of it in this one

premiumCheers, Seesee. Sounds fabulous. I may add it into a piratey pub crawl.
Any pirate booty you wish to donate to the cause would be fabulous. Especially gold dubloons, which I am sure ye would have no use for…

Probably not suitable for your needs, but it’s nice to know there’s a pirate castle in London.

Simone beat me to it. The Pirate Castle would be cool and then we could all fall into the canal at the end of the night.

premiumI am going to have to look at this pirate castle. We could all run off and take it over and fire cannons on the folks below at the end of the night.
Horsey, are you inviting yourself to my birthday?! You are very welcome to come along. Control your arse-grabbing though… :P

premiumYou see! That’s the spirit!
I bought a nasty chunky skull and crossbones ring today. It is fabulous booty, I tells ye!
Now all I need is a good pirate hat…

Here’s a thought. I know it’s not quite piratey but everytime I walk past the Clink Prison Museum and read the sign that they have a room available for hire I always want to have a party down there.

They used to do pirate parties on the Cutty Sark….. sniff :-(

There’s a pub near Wapping tube called The Captain Kidd (Mr Kidd, the famous pirate, was hanged nearby) that’s riverside, spacious and may even have an upstairs hirable bit if i remember correctly.
It is a Sam Smith’s though which may, or may not, float your boat depending on how cheap/scummy you like your beer. Mind you, i suppose it’s the price of rum that you should really be interested in…

premiumThe Captain Kidd looks fabulous. But might be a bit too far out of central central London for some of my piratey crew.
I am pondering the Old Thameside Inn which is right next to the Golden Hind and seems like it might make a quite piratey choice…

premiumHorsey, I am not sure they have booze at the Clink. Unless you have some moonshine you can sneak down there…

seems a shame not to have it on a boat pub – have you ever been to the london regalia? it’s pretty good!
edit: gah! that’s the second time I’ve tried to put a map into a reply and it’s just ended up being posted on the site instead! must be a bug from using firefox?
anyway, boat pub: http://www.londonregalia.co.uk/ http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q=

premiumThanks Rogan, it looks fab. Awww. It says it is only open Monday to friday. Unless I want to hire it privately. Does anyone have a spare £350…? :(
The only other boats I can think of are the Tattershall Castle and Queen Mary. Both of which are a bit pants. We can always steal the Golden Hinde and set sail for the far east…

What? They don’t have drink at the Clink? That’s insane. Ok, don’t have your party there!

premiumI’ve slept on the Golden Hinde… Legally.
It might be worth having a word with them about having something themed there.
Oh – and happy birthday for the beginning of June.
