Picnic in September (Quintel anyone?)

A long time away it might seem but it’ll be snapping at our heels before we know it. So without any particular date or location in any mind at the moment I thought I would throw the idea to you wonderful FCLers for consideration. I was thinking, perhaps, everybody bringing grub or booze or both. Perhaps tartan rugs and plastic cups and plates? For once, since the smoking ban in pubs, we won’t have to watch our smoking friends disappear and we will all be able to smirt to our heart’s content.

Any thoughts?

Once the dust has settled, I’ll get the event properly organised.

Great idea!

How about Green Park as it is quite central for most people?

EDIT: Oh, though I can’t come unless it is before Sept 11 due to hols

This sounds familiar. Didn’t we establish on Richo’s thread a while back that St James’s Park was the best venue, specifically the north side; that cheese was more or less de rigeur and that a good number of people were lobbying for it to take place on a workday (myself included)?

Sometime in early to mid September is good for me.

Or, possibly, Hampstead Heath? Okay, it’s not so central, but it’s hardly miles away, and you’re less likely to get bothered by people (apart from certain types asking where Jack Straw’s Castle is).

I agree with it being a working day, although I would suggest Friday so that there’s the whole weekend to recover in.

I think a mid-September date (14th? 21st?) would suit most people…

Anyway, no decisions yet – plenty of time to go!

Making it a Friday would tie in quite nicely with the name of this here site that we be on.

Not sure about the Heath, though. I think you’ll find it is miles away from most other places

Bloody Southerners (of the Thames…)

I’m a Northener (when it comes to London – a very very Southerner otherwise) and my first thought was the Heath as well – although I do realise it’s not convenient at all. So I guess a central park is best, albeit flatter and unlikely to be free of herds of tourists.

As for the date: I do freelance work Mon-Thurs (so basically if I get organised I can do whatever I want those days) and have a weekend job Fri-Sun, so I can’t make it on a Friday… if you people are flexible enough with your jobs to be able to go out on a weekday, couldn’t we pick one other than a Friday?

Perhaps to convince you I can promise to bring something nice, Italian and homemade by me? But then again, it’s the company and the fun that counts

We decided it would be Greenwich Park.

Greenwich Park.

Who’s we? And Greenwich Park is even worse to get to than HH!

And the first person to suggest Crystal Palace will be severely dealt with. As will the second and subsequent similar suggestions…

We is the collective. Obv. You idiot.

And We decided.

I agree with Pottytime – if the Heath is unconvenient, Greenwich is a nightmare to get to! Why does everything need to be in the South? Let’s pick a place that we can all reach without having to deal too much with public transport multiple connections – we know they don’t bloody work.

Next thing we know someone will suggest meeting in Richmond!

How about Friday 7th or Friday 21st?

EDIT: though I don’t really care what day of the week it is

Vero

ah ah thanks Agox!

I’ll be away in Florence on the weekend of the 21st, so I guess if you decide on that date you won’t have me complaining that I couldn’t join because you picked a Friday :)

Other than that, I should be in London…..

Somewhere with swans and ducks, but no wasps or mosquitoes.

What’s wrong with St James’s Park? There are swans and ducks, you get to see pelicans eating pigeons, loos are nearby and it is central.

St James’s Park. Yes.

I’ll join you if this happens on the 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th of September.

Whatever the date or location chosen for this will doubtless prove difficult for me to get to but, come what may, I shall do my damnedest to turn up with a sagging bag full of steaming homemade banana cake, warm fizzy pop and 40 Richmond Smooth.

I like the sound of a picnic, St James’ park is pretty convenient and easy to get to, so that works for me. I’ve got a picnic hamper that’s just been idling away in a cupboard, and I’ll bring bacon pie and a nice cheese or two. Hurrah for picnics!
