Oyster Card Problems

Why have Transport for London made it so difficult for commuters to get a refund on their Oyster card? It used to be the case where you could go to the ticket office and they would correct your journey for you. So simple and it worked. But TfL must have realised how much money they could make by making it as difficult as possible to reclaim a refund.

It used to be the case that you got charged the maximum possible fare for your journey if you didn’t touch out – or there was a problem with the gate/your card. Then TfL increased this amount to £4 and took away oyster refund responsibility from the ticket office and forced people to spend 15 minutes on the phone to an 0845 number (I have £180 worth of allowance on my phone each month – but T-mobile still charge for 0845 numbers- very annoying!!!!) to try and get their money back after they had been charged £4 for a journey which did not take place because the service had been suddenly suspended.

I was also told that I can only get my money back when I next swipe in at a tube station within a 7 day period. After a three day processing period. Three days for what exactly? I use the tube very sporadically- Living in zone 1, I can get everywhere by bus. So I will have to use the tube to get my £4 back. Sigh…..

Seeing as TfL have made it so difficult for me to get my £4 back – I will do something to help you all to get a refund for your tube nightmares. Did you know…..

“If you experience a delay to your journey of more than 15 minutes, for reasons within our control, we will refund you with a voucher to the value of the single delayed journey. Please note that refunds cannot be made if a delay is beyond our control or that of our contractors such as security alerts, third party action or adverse weather conditions. This also applies to service changes advertised in advance.”

Those of you who use the Rayners Lane branch of the Piccadilly line will virtually be travelling for free!

Good to know on the delay loophole! Strange though :? I got a refund from the ticket office a couple days ago.
