Open Mic Nights for beginners?

I’ve been playing guitar and singing for quite a while now and a couple of people have kindly said i’m ok at it.

Asides from the odd drunken night in the local or a pissed up gathering at a friends house I dont actually play in front of people a lot and would like to give it a go.

Can anyone recommend a good Open Mic night for beginners where people perform covers as well as original material? I’m after something really informal with really good exits so I can run if i’m shite.

Oh, you can all come and throw rotten fruit at me if you like too.

This question was asked a while ago and I was wondering if anyone has any other more recent suggestions.

You can try the upallnight guys, they run nights at a few spots that tend to be starter friendly. I think they’re www.upallnightmusic.com.

Good luck fella

Very exciting…bet no one sings American pie like me at around midnight though. ;)

Roscetino is a good person to advise. His big sister is my mate from uni and our Ross is in a band. A very good one. You should hear his missus sing.

Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty purple petticoat. Ooh la, she was such a good girl to me… etc!

I was just gonna check out Ross’s band links from another thread :) Thanks for the links Ross – couldn’t see much about Open Mic nights on that site unfortunately. Should I subscribe and see what gets sent through?

Any words of wisdom for a humble beginner would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Days!

Aye, send em an email and ask if they cater for what you’re after. My partner did a load of open mic nights when she first got her latest outfit together a few years ago so I’ll ask her. If in doubt just do a google search for “open mic” london and you’ll probably hit paydirt. My only advice would be stick to central london where poss. Tell us where you live and I’ll try and point out some places you could try

Having been there as recently as last night, I can confirm that the Alf Moon in Erne Ill has an open mic night, tuesdays 8-11pm. I don’t think you have to do a full three-hour set though. See details on their myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/halfmoonlive
