I am meeting my step-parents after they see the Turner exhibition on Saturday afternoon. They want to take me for a late lunch somewhere nearby. Should I lead them over to the South Bank or do you know any nice places near the Tate? And if the South Bank where would you recommend?

I’ve always found the South Bank places – Wagamama, Strada – tend to be heaving but maybe if you time it right?
Personally I’d catch an 88 from the back of Tate Britain and take it up to Trafalgar Square say, giving you the option of Covent Garden or Piccadilly.

Agree with the comment re south bank being heaving – but you should be ok for a late lunch. Grab a voucher from vouchercodes.co.uk for cheap eats – but beware SB-specific exclusions.
Canteen under the RFH is pretty good and parent-friendly. Pubs around Waterloo that are ok – the White Hart, King’s Head, Anchor and Hope. Mar Y Terra near Southwark tube is very good.
Best pub for the Tate Mod is the Morpeth near Vauxhall Bridge – not sure about the food though.

I suppose I could walk them up to Borough if the weather is ok too.

Tas – either The Cut or Borough High Street – is very reliable, and I think Troika (behind City Hall as was) is also very good for a Turkish/meze type thing
