Do you think American politics have affected Britain more or less over recent years? What effect will the leadership change have this time around? Are you bothered? Who gets your vote? And if Joe the plumber lived in London do you think he’d mend your shower for less than £75 an hour plus bloody VAT?

Is it wrong or understandable that the typo in the question is making me unable to concentrate?

I’m not sure how American politics have affected us and I don’t really know what effect the leadership change will have either. I’d far rather see Obama win as McCain really does seem to be far too similar to Bush in a number of ways and Palin scares the shit out of me. I think Joe the plumber would consider £75 an hour + VAT to be rather cheap.

As an American, I agree with you on Palin. She scares the bejebus out of me! However, there’s really not too many major differences between McCain and Obama when you get right down to it. Which is why I’ll be voting for one of the lesser-known third party candidates.

I’m with StevenMichael (and not just because I’m also an American) – I don’t think it’ll make much difference in the end, policy-wise. Obama is way more rightwing than I’d like. Any initial improvement in America’s world relations following an Obama victory will fizzle out fairly quickly, I imagine. But obviously, McCain/Palin would be a disaster.

I suppose it depends on how old you are. If you are very young, then the election of Senator Paris Hilton to the presidency in 2040 may well be more of a hoohaa.

But obviously, McCain/Palin would be a disaster.

Why would they obviously be a disaster?

I should point out that if I were American my vote would almost certainly go to Obama, so please don’t presume that I ask that question because I am a McCain/Palin fan. I just wonder(ed) if people think that McCain/Palin are so bad because of how they come across in the media or because people actually disagree with their politics.

I actually disagree with their politics. But – more than that – the message that America would send to the rest of the world by voting in another Republican pair would be pretty horrendous. And if the ‘special relationship’ has to continue, then by default, we could get sucked in to even more dark situations that I’d rather we avoided.

McCain looks about as relaxed and comfortable as a Thunderbird puppet.

Any vice-Presidential candidate who revels in her own ignorance as markedly as Ms Sarah Palin should be disqualified automatically. Or just marry George Bush Jr. and have even more ignorant children.

McCain is 70-odd years old. As fit as he may seem he could take ill any day (as could anyone but somewhat more likely in his case), which would leave that woman in charge. Which terrifies me.

Mind you, that aside, I’m 100% with Obama anyway. Could never bring myself to support a Republican.

And he’s really quite fit.

For a man who has lived 72 years and 67 days (McCain’s age on Election Day this year), there is between a 14.2 and 15.1 percent chance of dying before Inauguration Day 2013, according to the Social Security Administration’s 2004 actuarial tables and the authoritative 2001 mortality statistics assembled by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Having said that, I don’t really care for those odds considering that McCains’ replacement believes that Adam and Eve were riding around on dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden roughly 6,000 years ago.

Did you see in a paper that even the racists, like weirdo Nazis and stuff, are supporting Obama over McCain, even though he’s a bit black? I can’t remember why, I think they think McCain is a dick. But then half of Americans appear to think that Obama is a Commie.

Stolen from Popbitch:

Three out of four white supremacists
   prefer Obama to McCain.
Tom Metzger, Director White Aryan Resistance
"McCain... He’s a scary, scary person -- more
dangerous than Bush. Obama, according to his
book, Dreams Of My Father, is a racist and
I have no problem with black racists."
Erich Glieber, Chairman, National Alliance
"Obama... He’s a very intelligent man, an
excellent speaker and has charisma... My only
problem with Obama is perhaps he’s not
black enough.”
Rocky Suhayda, Chairman, American Nazi Party
“White people are faced with either a negro or
a total nutter who happens to have a pale
face. Personally I’d prefer the negro."
The odd one out is Ron Edwards, Imperial Wizard
of the Imperial Klans of America
“Obama, I think he’s a piece of shit."

Heh. Good find.

That connecting with the public ‘Joe the plumber’ bollocks deserves a sustained bout of torture. The Republican efforts to tie Obama to terrorism spoke volumes about the options open to them having to follow Bush, I suppose.

On the plus side, McCain is a Maverick though. As only 72 year old men / Thunderbird puppets can be, my friends. So he selects Palin and slides instantly from Maverick to Idiot. If Obama does get in then it’ll be refreshing to give the world’s populace an alternative view of American leaders other than preppy white boys who like bombing brown people in the name of democracy, freedom, liberty or whatever trite bollocks the US admin uses to garner public support for their foreign policy.

My money’s on Obama being the only one to restore the immense amount of goodwill and respect that the world wants to give to the US but feels it can’t until that gaping sphincter of an idiot, Bush, has excreted himself from the scene.

And as for Palin…Dinosaurs, unable to name a newspaper, shout out to Alaskan 3rd graders, perky hockey mom, grasp of financial crisis, foreign policy, every media appearance. Jesus fucking Christ.

impales Palin on a moose

I think following a token amount of deportation, languishing at Guantanamo, and emigration, we should all be looking forward to the Ross presidential campagin with Brand as VP. Looking forward chronologically that is.

In the Observer business section “according to analysis of both candidate’s promises by an organisation called Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, both McCain’s and Obama’s economic plans would increase the deficit by more than $200bn in 2013”.

The prospect of screwing the US economy even more, in time to turn it over during the next election, must be mouthwatering to some.
