Is there help for my claustrophobic girlfriend?

My girlfriend, being mad, refuses to travel on trains, planes or – especially – tubes, because she becomes claustrophobic and has panic attacks. Has anyone else overcome something like his, and if so, how? I’m thinking hypnotherapy would be the laziest solution….

I also suffer from the same ‘condition’ as your girlfriend. I haven’t been on the tube for about 4 years now and cry hysterically when I’m on a plane. I haven’t cured it even afterseeing the doctor and hoping he’ll have a magic medicine to make it go away. Sorry, no point to posting really – tell your girlfriend I know exactly how scary it is and try breathing really slowly. 7/11 rule. Breathe in for 7 and out for 11… or is it the other way round? Anyway try it out. Helps a bit. I think I’ve realised my biggest fear is not being on them as such but thinking I’m going to get stuck and not being able to get out and then maybe realising I might actually die stuck on there… All psychological, unfortunately it is a very hard train of thought to get out of…(excuse the pun)

I suffer from panic attacks & anxiety, have an incredible fear of flying & absolutely hate needles. I don’t like going on tubes and get off if I feel anxious if it’s too full. I don’t suffer from claustrophobia as such, but I’m imagining that a panic attack on a tube or confined space is pretty similar! Hypnotherapy will definitely work – it helped me loads. It’s very expensive though, and something she would need a few sessions of, but well worth it. Have a look at www.thehypnotherapyassociation.co.uk – anxiety & panic attacks are not pleasant so anything is worth a go!

Tubes are the foul subterranean entrails of the London beast, stuffed with the day’s foetid offerings. Having said that, I find that Bach’s Rescue Remedy can keep me on an even keel. I don’t believe in all that alternative medicine stuff, so I suppose it’s the placebo effect.

I can recommend a brilliant hypnotherapist who is a friend of mine but none the less has treated a lot of people with all manner of phobias from flying to toilet related incidents all cured in about 3 sessions by hypnotherapy. Her name is Jessica Robinson and you can call her on 0800 083 8013, or there’s a website at www.jessicarobinson.co.uk

It’s quite simple to overcome. Move to the countryside. Problem solved. Or get a new girlfriend. Harmony do ones that come in a box – so presumably they quite happy travelling on the tube etc.

I have the same condition. and I have been thinking about taking hypnotherapy. doesn’t cost a lot, just a couple of sessions.

I am lot better than I was before just with an intro one ..but still need to do some more.

Recommend it.
