I rather like that. However, I wonder just how much electricity would really be saved if more people used black backgrounds – and would the resulting increase in emo kids be worth it?

premiumDon’t really understand why a black background uses less electric than a white one??
On a tube monitor, very little difference in power used, on a LCD no difference, the same number of crystals are moved and the back light is still on. Plasma, not a lot either. Really the only type of display that would use less electric is OLED and there aren’t a lot of those about on big monitors as they are mostly used for mobile phone displays.
Also a black background makes for bad vision and wouldn’t be DDA compliant.

premiumThis thread has real potential.
For what, I’m not sure yet. Shortest, perhaps, or dullest; it could conceivably be both.

I don’t want to look at a black screen – we had black screen’s in the 80’s – they hurt my eyes and made me tired. I’m going to be controversial here but is anyone else just a little bit fed up of having to be bloody green in every possible aspect of their life? It’s not that I don’t believe in it – I know we have a responsibility to look after our planet a bit better than we have been. But…..grrrr….at every turn we’re being told to do something more, something else.
Sometimes I feel little bit like saying bollocks to all of it. Bollocks to the waggy finger constantly making me feel guilty about my consumption, my car ownership, the fact that I fly sometimes, use a dishwasher, will use disposable nappies, drink bottled water, don’t recycle every atom of packaging that enters my home. For god’s sake some utter fucker even invented the utterly hideous “mooncup” – a bit of plastic that collects menstral blood instead of using tampons – minging – stop it! I know we have responsibilities and I really try to do my bit but does anyone else feel a bit like nothing is ever enough and there’s always some fucker waiting to make you feel guilty about something else? And that a lot of these fuckers are actually going to make loads of money out of our guilt (it really upsets me that the mooncup inventer will make money out of that one) And is any of it actually making a difference?
Ok….rant over….I know I’m going to get told off now…I’m ready for you…
Deep breath….

I hadn’t considered ‘most hideous’.

premiumWhere there’s trade, there’s traders. Global Warming (or is that wetting?) is no different.
Really simple – start a scare and people with buy into it.
I can remember doing something like this while at Uni, a pal and I went into Sainsbury’s and standing by the where the salt was, I said in a loud voice, ‘Hey did you know that the Siberian Salt miners are going on strike, could lead to a salt shortage’ . Within a couple of minutes there wasn’t any salt left on the shelf !!

Shut up, Cobo.

Ahhhh – Flange has ruined moon cups for ever. For a split second they sounded like a really nice choccy or something. Plain chocolate with a creamy white centre. Not blood out of inside a lady.

premiumCarla – you don’t mean that do you?? What’s a site like this without talk??
Posted about 1 year ago by cobo04
premiumShe doesn’t mean it. You and she have a symbiotic relationship.
I had one of those once, but I got the feeling it was all one way.

premiumi invented moon cups, it was meant to be a joke – it was never meant to go this far!
I’m sorry.

the mooncup is amazing. apparently it does not interfere with your healthy vaginal environment. i read that on their website; which also contains handy information like “silicone is derived from silica.” (well, it is aimed at ladies, who were probably too busy changing their tampons to pay any attention in chemistry.)

Blackle not save much energy, instead make money for Blackle. If Blackle money used to save planet, Blackle good. If Blackle money used to fund jet-away holidays for owners, Blackle not so good. Now stop discussing and go switch off computer.

premium onlineBlackle sounds like something out of Dilbert to me. Something the Pointy Haired Boss would believe, like using shorter words will save disk space, or if your mouse reaches the side of the mouse mat before your mouse pointer reaches the side of your screen, move your desk a little.
It’s all bollocks but, as W.C.Fields said “Never give a sucker an even break.”
@GMTV – In New Scientist this week it mentions in “Feedback” a website about biofuels which claims that they are ”...as biodegradable as table salt.” A reader says she is relieved to know now where all those annoying piles of sodium and noxious green gases come from.
Oh – and do these moon cups come in sizes, like bras? Can you buy them from Bra-Vissimo? Would I have to go with Mrs Pottytime? (cf: other threads)

premiumBNM – You mean Carla and I are in the same wavelength?? Interesting, Carla, what’s your view on this??
Pottytime – I agree about the Dilbert reference, I can just see one of those cartoon strips on this subject, guy in stripy tie trying to get a useful invention over while pointy haired boss is pushing Blackie. Then the usual stalemate situation with both believing they’ve won before Dogbert puts in the punch line.

Interesting, Carla, what’s your view on this??
If my wave is currently hitting a sandy shore in Camber Sands, your wave is drifting somewhere around vicinity of Antartica.
Also, shut up.
Posted about 1 year ago by Carla
premiumCome on Carla, it isn’t that bad, also my wave isn’t anywhere near Antarctica, hate the cold, I’d like my wave to hit the shores of somewhere tropic, Seychelles would be nice, warm Indian Ocean, palm trees. Nice.
I’m nice and friendly, so the Seychelles would be my wave point.
