Any suggestions on cool pubs/bars in the vicinity of the Old Vic for pre-Rufus Wainwright drinks on Thursday?

The Young Vic bar, just a bit father down The Cut is very nice. Bit classy, like and open to all, not just theatregoers.

Underneath Waterloo Stations is the Fire Station which isn’t a bad bar but can be a bit noisy.
There’s also a popular one half way done the cut, i think it’s call The Windmill or something similar.
The Old Vic does have it’s own small theatre bar as well.
There’s also a Caffe Nero if you prefer coffee / soup.
have fun at Rufus, only just heard the album and it sounds great.

The Kings Arms on Roupell St is a great little boozer tucked away in the back streets. Beats the pants off most pubs round Waterloo.

If you’re wandering down The Cut, go a bit further to the Anchor & Hope – it’s a gastropub that gets rave reviews of its food (rightly so, is delish) but I love the fact that they serve nice wine in tumblers at sensible prices.

Grrrr
Every time I try and add mappage I mess it up.

Ooh, is that THE Anchor and Hope? Hmmm gastropub… sensibly-priced wine… sounds highly promising

I think it probably is THE Hope & Anchor. If you’ve got theatre tickets though, and want to eat before, get there early as you sometimes have to wait AGES for a table

The Young Vic bar has taken to calling itself The Cut Bar: http://www.thecutbar.com/
Sadly their marketing budget didn’t stretch to finishing their website.
It’s a non-smoking bar, though there is a balcony overlooking The Cut which was packed with smokers last time I was there.

I like the Ring, on the corner opposite Southwark tube.
The Young Vic’s bar is good too, the Fire Station’s a bit tossy though. Meson de Filipe for tapas, Tas for a bit of Greek.

Oh and the usual Lower Marsh recommendations too: Cubana, Camel, Walrus, Horse, and the delightful Ha Noi for oriental yum yums.

Kudos to you all for the suggestions. The Young Vic bar/Cut Bar and H&A are looking like the front runners. Hardly go out in that neck of the woods so always good to accumulate tips

Hope and Anchor is a great gasto pub but it is heaving in the evening as it doesn’t do any table bookings. it recently got reviewed in the press so even more popular now.
The Young Vic might also be busy because Vernon God Little is selling well.
Would be best to get to either as early as possible to get a table.
