I realised today I hate the District Line. I was in Parsons Green and had to get to Monument however it isn’t that simple is it because there are lots of off-shoots and I had to get off at Earls Court instead(I was tired and grumpy too).

Why can’t it just go in one straight line like the Central Line or a proper circle like the Circle line

I think the colour affects how I rate a tube line. I really like the Picadilly Line becuase it is a nice shade of Blue. I think I like it becuase it takes me to Harvey Nichols as well.

I hate the Northern Line – loads of branches and you’re always on the wrong one and it is black and depressing and goes to Morden which sounds like Mordor.

The Central Line does have some confusing branches if you’re outside of Zone 2. They have that strange loop thing that’s not quite a full loop out in the East. H&C line I hate – you absolutely never know when it’s going to turn up and it seems to have the highest number of nutters of any tube line.

I think the Central Line smells worse than any of the others. The Northern Line, however, would get my worst vote because of wot Natasha said and also because of the well-known phenomenon of the ‘Northern Line minute’ which has been proven to be at least thirty seconds longer than the normal sort of minute that everyone else uses. When you have fifteen minute (sez them) gaps between trains, it can begin to feel like you’re growing lichen while you wait.

The Northern line is the hottest, most stifling one. And you can find yourself surrounded by vile Camden scum monkeys.

I think the Central gets hotter than the Northern line.

district line definately the worse, I only use it when going to the Bridge, but Fulham Broadway to Mile End (usually having to change at Earls Court) can seem like forever, agree with Plum you might be on the district line for 30 minutes but it definately feels like 45 minutes, a bit like Cornish miles.

Bakerloo line is a favourite – it takes me from Paddington to Soho safely every day. Metropolitan line is my least favourite – it takes hours to get anywhere and is too bouncy to read a book!

Aw, I like the District line. The carriages are bigger and the ceilings are higher, thus less crippling claustrophobia. Plus it goes outside. That is a good plus.

The Hammersmith and City, on the other hand, goes right round the outside of nowhere, and it’s impossible to get to the places west without changing a million times. Growl.

slight tangent I hate changing lines at Holborn, it is like a mad game of froggit, I actually get quite scared.

________

The Northern line for eschewing Victoria line logic and having Kings Cross southbound of Euston.

No it’s the Victoria line that’s got it wrong. King’s Cross north of Euston? what

iris: It’s a good job the District line goes outside: you get something nice to look at during all the stoppages in-between stations

Thank you all for your responses. My Central Line journey stops at Bank, sometimes Stratford so I’ve not seen it go loop di loop as it enters Essex. The Northern Line is also annoying especially if your nearest branch is the rubbish one that doesn’t go through TCR and such.

For me the Bakerloo line, it’s so ancient compaired with the other lines. When is it to get new trains and more so when are the stations going to updated to the 20th century far less the 21st !! I just hope that Regents Park comes out of it’s coccoon as a new modern station not the old damp dank gloomy one it was before the ‘mod’.

I’m with Iris on both counts – but I also hate the Vicky Line – it’s like a flippin’ sauna!

The Picadilly line for me – try getting back from Uxbridge when you’re drunk and fall asleep

The Central line beyond Stratford is lovely (well, comparatively speaking) – the stations have waiting rooms and toilets on the platforms that aren’t always closed due to vandalism or too unpleasant to use. If you squint you could imagine Thomas The Tank Engine pulling into Barkingside. Well, if you squint and liked reading books about trains when you were eight, anyway.

Meanwhile, the Waterloo and City line would only be acceptable if they renamed the stations “Bank, but miles from any of the other platforms” and “Somewhere near Waterloo, possibly”.
