You know how it is, you’ve had too much to drink and you need some dirty food. It’s the only thing that will scratch your particular itch. Is yours a donner kebab with chilli sauce? Perhaps it’s chips with lashings of burger sauce? Or my particular favourite, a sausage in batter. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Bosnian Hotdog
Posted over 2 years ago by Natasha

Never ever eat those hotdogs from the men on the street that have their little exposed portable kitchen grill thingy at 3am. Never ever ever, for the following reasons:
1. They are pigeons and rats reformed into the shape of sausages 2. They are run by the mafia 3. I saw one of those topple over once and the man picked up all the sausages from the gutter and put them back on the grill and continued selling them.
Butters, you get me blud.

Chips from Maoz (http://www.maozveg.com/). Only they will do. Chilli and garlic sauce on top, then more beer!

Oh god I havent had a decent bit of late night drunk food since I moved into my flat, for where the nearest station is nowhere near a late-nighter.
Oh lamb-shish how I miss thee.

Maoz is a fine fine call Purpa. Mostly because I didn’t know it was called that until recently. We always called it King Falafel. I presume this was because we were so pissed whenever we were in there we couldn’t read the signage and completely made up a name out of nowhere. A bit like not being able to find the Troy Club when you’re sober.

You don’t get dirtier than this
A couple of people that I work with had them for lunch on Tuesday and actually quite enjoyed them. I personally think they need help and I won’t be trying them any time soon.

Ugh. Deep Fried Pizza

It’s sad really, ever since I got my Bite Card, I only ever indulge at Burger King at Victoria or London Bridge. Then, it’s an XL Bacon Double Cheeseburger.
I miss kebabs.

The residents of our flat used to thrive on shish from a little kebab shop on Tooley Street.
When I’d moved down that way, I discovered that my mate/new flatmate affectionately knew the joint [and any/all of its meat-based produce] as “Rat Kebab” – which I thought was a comic reference to the presumed meat content of food.
However, when we moved out, a couple of years later, I met my predecessor in that flat. It turns out that they’d started calling it that when they’d seen two rats scurrying over the food prep surfaces while the guy was frying off some chips for them…
...they knew all along. They ate there. They didn’t think this was worth mentioning. And to think I used to wonder how I’d managed to evolve guts of steel?!
Oh, and didn’t they find an entire rats’ nest in the bottom of the ovens of one of the Woody’s kebab shops a while back.
I digress.
Favourite filth: Two packets of smoked bacon (last effort 16 slices), grilled, with lashings and lashings of red sauce, and nothing else except two pints of strong but milky tea served from my stone stein.

That bite card thing would be good for my fast food fridays, what’s the catch?

On Saturday I went to a party in Mayfair. We then cabbed (we being 8 of us) to Old Street for the sole purpose of going to Best Turkish Kebabs, and then cabbed again back to where we live, which is the other side of Tower Bridge from there. Those kebabs cost us over a tenner each.
Slightly extravagant, but they are well nice kebabs. Chicken shish is my favourite, I don’t eat doners, ugly little shits they are.

What’s that place on Edgware Road…g’ah! It’s called Aunty Something, or something. Seem to remember them being not-quite-PB-esque-expensive-but-dear, and we cabbed it over there and home a few times, just to add to the pleasure/pain sensation.
Lamb shish, tonnes of houmos, lettuce, cucumber stat…I am actually contemplating going straight down there after work, you sods (tonight was going to be shave and polish skull night, chez nous).

Is Best Kebab the one on Kingsland Rd, couple of hundred yards up past the bridge? If so it is good. So is Rosebery Kebabs in Farringdon, and Kings Kebabs on Stroud Green Rd. but the best proper* kebab I’ve had was from a roadside stand in Berlin.
But it’s got to be Donner, shish is waay too wholesome to count as dirty food.
*Proper as in wrapped in paper, lots of chilli sauce, and half of it dropped down your shirt on the way home.
