Chrimbo: how not to have a cheesy time?

Have been put in charge of our Christmas party this year – I think I drunkenly offered to do it after the disaster of last year which involved a trip to the horrible dive that is Sugar Reef. Nuff said.
Aaaanyway – we’re a small company – about 16 of us, age range 20-45 – and I wanna come up with something good. Something interesting, non-cheesy, that hopefully most people will enjoy. Any suggestions? Current thoughts have been greyhound racing, and bowling. But thought you folk might know something a bit more original than that?

The best Christmas do I went on went thusly:
Get to work at 9:00 and get told not to turn on PC but go outside and have a fag and wait for a car
Get taken to a Karting track in the city for a full on enduro race
Get taken to the pub for a quick drink
Trip on the London Eye
Back to the pub
Off to the Hard Rock Café for more drinks and food
Taken to the comedy store for a night of comedy and more beer
If that’s a bit much, you could always go for the simple option and go and get pissed somewhere – or have a boat party, that’s always fun….

Morals, she said non-cheesey you twatknocker.
Go to Vinopolis and taste wine. Everyone loves wine.

you twatknocker.
Hah, I wish! :o)
Vinopolis is a good idea though – my ex went there and had a great time. Of course she’s a hard-drinking Glaswegian so anything involving alcohol kept her happy….

My fave was a private dining room in One Aldwych – there were about 25 of us; I organised it; it was black tie; the music was a mammoth playlist on my ipod, and we had forfeits and games. We also brought our own champagne. It got very raucous and we were all hammered. What more could you ask – you really just need a space that you can enjoy each others company in…
btw you didn’t mention a budget?!

Yes, indeed budget. It’s small – actually i’m not sure what constitues small but it’s about £60 a head or something…

Could highly recommend One Aldwych, I went to a friend’s engagement do there once. They made the best dirty martini I’ve ever had. They also have a private luxury cinema with plush blue leather seats which you can hire out I believe.

Yeah – done a few events at the One Aldwych cinema – they do put on a great spread and the staff are spot on – but it may blow the £60 per head budget. Comedy nights are great for groups – or how about going to the Dogs? – you can get great group deals with the first few bets thrown in, cheap booze and cheap food!

£60 a head is quite good – I bet you could get one of the dining rooms & a simple dinner at One Aldwych for that – give them a ring!

We had an absolutely awesome Christmas party last year, at the arcade under/near the London Eye (County Hall?)
We had some reserved seating and food and booze was served (sausage rolls, chicken wings, stuff like that). Then we were split into two groups, and one group got stuck into the bowling while the other played all the arcade games/bumper cars/foosball etc etc. (EDIT: we were given a pile of arcade tokens each). Then after a an hour or so we swapped. Brilliant fun. Totally recommend bumper cars while smashed.
Then we moved on to Motion Bar by Embankment tube for much drunken inappropriateness. Gold.

Ah – I love this idea. Anyone know the name of said arcade so I can phone and ask them lots of questions about chicken wings?
Posted over 2 years ago by BeavisSchmeavis

Yes – it is clearly the best idea ;)
I just did some googling and think it might be this place:

You’re quite right Agox, it is indeed the namco station and it is an awesome place – have spent many a drunken evening in there playing pool, riding the bumper cars and playing the dancing game in the arcade.
I was actually going to suggest this venue for a future FCL meet as I was discussing going there for my birthday with my pals only last night.

Last Christmas my company went to Hoxton Kitchens for a cooking masterclass! Sounds fairly dull but we had an uproarious time getting merry and cooking our own Christmas dinner – obviously eating it together afterwards. And then of course you are slap bang in the middle of Shoreditch/Hoxton for going out afterwards – if that sort of thing floats your boat of course. Different, but a good time had by all. Good Luck!

I wanted to go to Lee Hursts comedy club this year…www.leehurst.com but I was outvoted for a meal. It looks quite good, there’s food and comedy and after the comedy, dancing and karaoke. What more could anyone ask for. It has all the ingredients to make utter tits of yourselves so you’ve got something to talk about for the next year….. Merry Christmas to you.

I walk for a small company and this year we’re going to one of those sharer parties, it’s all organised by some party company, any hoo it’s in a big tent in Battersea Park, called ‘Apres’ and cost’s £55 each which includes 4 course dinner, wine and entertainment. The entertainment is a disco, trapeze artists (!) chocolate fountain, vodka luge, dodgems, casino (with pretend mula) and something called a ‘Glamour Zone’. Any hoo we all get to sit on 2 tables next to each other and mingle with other people if we got tired of our own brethren. We’re all very excited

don’t for crying out loud go bowling. i guarantee at least half the staff will hate it. my ex-boss arranged bowling for a christmas do a couple of years ago and we felt obliged to go. about half the staff got all competitive and enjoyed, the rest of us escaped the neon lights, cheesy music and teenagers as soon as we politely could and secretly met up down the pub
