Antique Microchips: free to good home

I have what i very loosly call a computer. A microwave would beat it in an argument.

It started out as a windows 95 monster, and was upgraded to 98 – this has slowed it down so much that if it were in a race with a commodore 64, loading up Windows Media Player vs Fantasy Land Dizzy (on tape), the commodore could walk it, and probably crash a few times on the way.

This computer is no use to anyone.

For the last 3 houses i’ve lived in, there was always somewhere to stow it away and ignore it, but in my new house the dreaded problem has arisen. Can you throw computers away with normal rubbish (or will they leak chemicals everywhere)? They might want to ship it off to some underfunded african school but it is so heavy it would need a ship of its own to get it there (and would probably technologically set back the school by several years).

How do I get rid of it, does anyone want it, or am i stuck with it for life like a bad tattoo?

If nobody wants it (and who can blame them), you can recycle them. Well, at least the big recycling depot on the Holloway Road has a big skip for old computers. Or you can try and get a charity to take it, but it sounds like they wouldn’t want it. Here’s a link just in case.

They do leak a lot of very nasty chemicals. Try disposing of it through http://uk.freecycle.org/.

Or eBay. I recently managed to sell a 486 on there for £1.99!

We’ll have it. We can use it as a webcam server.
