A Place in the sun - for reading, writing and coffee

I’ve finally started work on my thesis (after an extended year long London holiday. Bad decisions Jen, bad bad.) For the last week or so I’ve been cooped up in my flat, with books strewn about, staring at a computer screen and filling my tiny home with cigarette smoke. I have cabin fever. I need out.

With the weather finally picking up and summer hopefully upon us, I need somewhere to sit outside and do my work. Somewhere where nice people will refill my coffee for free (this is London – does that even exist?) and allow me to sit for hours on end. Somewhere preferably close to Bayswater/Notting Hill so I don’t have to lug my books all over town. And the kicker – somewhere with a free Wifi connection so I can still check the pressing matters on facebook and kcl while diligently working away.

10 kudos for a place that fulfills all my high expectations.

What you are describing is a private members’ club – there are many but I recall Home House has a nice garden and is not a million miles away from you…

Hyde Park Square, Sussex Square, Gloucester Gardens?

Quagga – I’m not sure a private members club would be the best solution – ya know, with the expense and all. Plus I would feel a bit out of place in my jeans and t-shirt and unwashed hair with all the books about jihad and Al-Qaeda around me. I need to keep a low profile.

If you mow my lawn (and de-snake it), you’re welcome to use my back garden. It meets all your requirements apart from the Notting Hill one. Oh, and you’ll have to refill your own coffee.

I used to mow lawns to make $$$ when I was a kid, so no problems with that. However, the de-snaking might cause me to run around screaming like a madman in your back garden while all your neighbors look on. It could be quite embarrassing, so I must pass. And you live in Croydon.

Purpaboo – do any of those lovely squares have free coffee refills and a place to sit? I think not.

Seriously people, I’m losing hope in London. There has to be somewhere that fulfills my (apparently unattainable) requirements!
