I love second-hand/ vintage clothes, and am looking for a really special dress cut in a 50s shape to flatter. So where are London’s best vintage shops/ stalls? In the spirit of sharing, here are a few of my existing fave treasure chests:
Rokit (Camden/ Covent Garden/ Brick Lane branches)
Chi Chi Ra Ra (East Dulwich)
Blackout II (Endell Street, Covent Garden)
Camden, Spitalfields, and Portobello markets
Any other tips greatly appreciated!

I passed such a shop only yesterday, on Battersea Park Road, approx location on the map. No idea what it was called, but it was vintage designer gear. Oh come to think of it, it may well have been the Vintage Designer Exchange or similar.

Radio Days in Waterloo looked fairly good – though not very big – the one time I went in there.

Ignoring the fact that it only has about two racks of guys clothes (I’d guess not a particular concern for you), Frock Me, at Chelea Town Hall every now & then, would be worth your while checking out

There’s a couple in Lower Marsh as well – is that where you’re thinking of, AC?

There’s a lot of amazing dresses at Beyond Retro on 58-59 Great Marlborough Street, or 110-112 Cheshire Street. I’ve only been to the Marlboro St one, so can’t speak for the other.
And if you sign up for their newsletters, they tell you about their Frock Nights, which sound like they might be right up your street, so to speak.
Even if you don’t find anything, their website’s a whole lot of fun…

Thanks all! The Battersea Park Road one is very close, so will check that out first, cheers ISD.
I’d heard of Frock Me, will keep it on the radar, Adrian, thanks.
Cheers for the tip ZoZo- will check out one of those branches. You’ve all been extremely helpful.
What surprised me is that two men answered this first! I am well impressed. You snappy dressers, you.

Agree with Lower Marsh. What the Butler Wore is fantastic if a little pricey. Radio days is pretty decent and its window right now features a gorgous late 40’s early 50’s dress.
Good luck!

It specialises in victoriana more, but Cornucopia on Vauxhall Bridge Road (actually just off it but still clearly visible) has a great reputation. Kate Moss uses it, though I realise that’s damning with feint praise on this site. ;o)

You’re after my own heart, LitroK! I like to get my vintage gear off ebay. I wound up with two lovely 1950s dresses that way, one of which I wore as my wedding dress and one which I wear as a guest to all weddings. Often much cheaper than the shops, and you only have to know your measurements to know they fit.
I also got one of the big pouffy underskirts from one of the vintage dress shops around Camden passage in Islington. There are still 2 proper shops and a few stalls on the market days, but it is quickly become posh eateries and I don’t think the dress shops have long left to live.
