A good emergency dating place?

Hi. Has anyone got any good ideas on where to go on a first date? I’ve been on a few first dates lately, and I’m now so bored of spending money in pubs and cocktail bars, my eyeballs bleed just thinking of those places. I wish I could just invite a lady back to my river-side balcony, and douse her in polish vodka and ice, under the moon and stars and the twinkling flight paths in the sky, but they just give me that panicked look and start edging away when I suggest that. Anyone know any good places to take a date, preferably quiet, and not too dark, so that I can at least see who I’m dating? thanks!

Take her up and down the river on the thames clipper, works on me every time.

word of advice, leave the baby at home, babies are boring.

Where by the river do you live? Aren’t there any nice riverside bars near you? Then if it gets ‘interesting’ you don’t have far to sweep her.

Agree with Sophie about the baby.

Go the Tate Modern, nice place to eat upstairs and plenty to distract you if they are a bit boring. I had a first date in St James’s Park once. He bought a picnic and we had icecream, strawberries and red wine. It was the nicest first date I have ever been on! Enjoy. Leave the baby at home. With a baby sitter.

Make it a daytime date and go to the Science Museum. If she doesn’t think it’s cool she’s not worth dating, and the games in the Wellcome Wing are great fun and really break any ice/tension there may have been. Closes at 6pm, leaving you all evening free (provided the day went well).

Have you considered taking her up the Oxo tower?

Honest to god iSleepDiagonal, it still made me laugh even after all this time. The old ones are the best. Thumbs up

wow thanks. I liked the tate modern and picnic in the park ideas best.I’m going to try that one next.

Thames clipper is great, but datee might think I’m a pirate kidnapping her for a life on the high seas. Maybe I’ll save that one for the second date.

I liked the science museum idea too, but I’m worried that I’d become more interested in the space exhibit than the datee, which probably wouldn’t go down very well. Also I’d probably end up fighting small children in the lauchpad section, which isn’t a good look on a date.

Baby isn’t mine, I’ve given her back since the photo opportunity. Thanks for the tip though :)

I’ve been up the oxo tower, there was vomit on the floor and it was rubbish. Oh wait, was that something rude? Oh dear. I did wonder why that date suggestion didn’t go down very well…

If all else fails, by the bins round the back of Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street is very romantic, I hear.
