I’ve started the new year in my usual state of financial hideom, and am seriously contemplating moving – again. But I need somewhere cheap, otherwise there’s no point. And I can barely be arsed to shift all the boxes of crap which travel everywhere with me, so ideally, it needs to be somewhere central, ground floor, and I’d quite like to live on my own. Is that too much to ask?

Find me somewhere else to live and you can have my flat, Willster. You just have to look after the cats…

I need to move too. I’m so poor that I’m considering Leytonstone. Beats Essex, I guess.

I’m thinking of moving too. But am dreading the pain/hassle of selling and moving and stuff. Babb, Leytonstone is not so bad – there’s an awesome Thai restaurant there and What’s Cookin’ at the Sheepwalk is a winner. At least you’re only a tube ride into places you may actually want to hang out :)
Willster, can you define “cheap”? And how central do you mean by central?

premiumWell, I’m paying 750 plus all the bills – which seem quite high for a half-furnished flat with a broken washing machine, crappy kitchen and tiny bathroom – in Archway at the moment. I reckon I could get a share in a much bigger, nicer place for less. Anything less would be lovely. Central – as central as possible. There are some bargains, I’m sure…........Let’s share a place. Babb, Fi, I can be your pimp.

Friend of mine used to pay £500 for a share of a three-bedroom flat in Mayfair. South Audley St it was, above the terribly tasteless china shop (this may not narrow it down a bit). This was probably about 3 or 4 years ago, so not too long ago.
The other two rooms were occupied by nice dutch girls. He was going out with a south african underwear model at the time. We call him “Lucky Charlie”.
This is of course of absolutely no use to you right now though – except for hope. Keep scanning the WC1 section of Loot. Every day.

Bloody hell, that’s quite a lot for what you describe. I used to live in a 3 storey 3BR amazingly huge terrace house, fully furnished, in Holloway, with garden sharing with 2 others and I only paid £145 a week. Granted that was 3 years ago but still, rent hasn’t skyrocketed that much.
Thanks for the offer, but we don’t need a pimp we can take care of ourselves! :)
I’ll have a puddle around and let you know if I come up with anything (I love property hunting – how sad am I?!). First thing to do is trawl www.findaproperty.com and www.rightmove.com using your price point as the main search criteria, rather than location. That will help with looking for a 1 bed place just for you at the right price and you can see what is around in what areas. For sharer places look at www.moveflat.com. At a pinch you could try gumtree but I’m not a huge fan…

premiumHa, me too – I love looking for the ultimate house for the cheapest rent…........Thanks! ‘Lucky’ Willster

My spare room will become available in a couple of months and it’s well cheap. Not central though, and if you moved in with me we’d probably become drug addled alcoholics, I’d lose my job and become unable to pay the mortgage, the flat would get repossessed and we’d end up begging on the streets. So probably not a good idea. But if anyone else is interested….

your place is super cheap compared to where I live on the – eurgh – city fringes Willster, but I’m not up for flatsharing ever again either (so that’s why I’m broke)
I used to own a house with my ex in Leytonstone and it was kind of ok, for the ‘burbs. It felt safe and all (only got burgled twice in 3 years) but there was a real dearth of decent pubs. Am currently trying not to have to move back there but I guess that’s due to allergy to living near ex-boyfriends.
