I’m a little surprised to see this isn’t being discussed on here already. Anyway, judging by the photos on some of the news sites…

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/03/28/nstreet128.xml http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7317060.stm http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article3635722.ece http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/39430/600-police-swoop-on-one-street-in-forgery-raid-

...anyone else suspect that The Express weren’t invited to the party?

Everyone else….

The Express…

The copper is in a different uniform and Blackstock Road seems to be rural. Oddly, The Grauniad online doesn’t seem to have covered the story at all.

The media angle seems to be at least as interesting as the reasons behind the raid.

Cheeky cunt. I thought this site would have the ability to autolink a URL.

And as for BNM’s comment, I agree. I notice The Express and The Mail were both at pains to point out that most of those arrested were Algerian.

It could well be the opposite – that someone at the Express is friendly with the coppers and got tipped off, so they sent their own photographer. Whereas everyone else just used the same Press Association photo – you can tell because the first three pics are essentially identical, though cropped differently. BBC News Online, for instance, would probably not send a photographer out to what is essentially a (big) local story.

Having sent the photographer, some Express editor probably figured they’d use her picture, even though it’s a shite snap of somebody feeling up an Algerian in a back garden miles from the action. Justifying the expense and all.

You do realise we’re talking about The Express here right?

What’s the link? (getting nothing but a blank Bloomberg). I’m not defending the Express – you can imagine the scenario, some copper tipping them off (‘we’re gonna nick loadsa them Albies’), some editors salivating like dogs, flooding the zone with reporters … who then bring back a bunch of rubbish. Of course they may have just slapped a generic feel-up photo on the story because they’re too tight to pay PA online fees, but that’s my guess anyway.

I work in Finsbury Park, just round the corner from Blackstock Road. We heard helicopters overhead for ages but assumed it was something to do with Gordon and Nicolas meeting at the Emirates Stadium at the same time, then I saw the news last night.

This from the BBC website” Blackstock Road, on the borders of the London boroughs of Islington, Haringey and Hackney, is a popular shopping street” is a complete lie. Unless you are shopping for stolen goods, drugs or forged documents it seems.

Blackstock Road is usually pretty intimdating to walk down of an evening and not because the men that gather there are Algerian or Turkish or whatever, but because they line up outside the shops in huge disparate groups staring and making comments to women walking by. I find an ipod useful at these times. Perhaps I will try it tonight, should be nice and empty.

I am informed that one of the amusement arcade type shops along there will serve up over the counter too.

Great news, Blackstock Road has been intimidating and dangerous for far too long. Mellie’s absolutely right about the men who line the street and stare – it really puts me off visiting friends on the road, as well as going to a couple of decent pubs along there.

If I remember correctly it was number 158 Blackstock Road, it was a squat. Had some great sex there…mm, sex, I remember that…1981 it was, sex, yes…great.
