Just for one night you can don a lovely tweedy skirt, listen to cats being strangled and eat mushed up bits of gristle in a sheep’s stomach. What could be better?

We’re talking about Burns night, of course, not another name for epileptics with fireworks, but the annual celebration of that spitty Scottish fellow with a penchant for weird spelling, Robert Burns.

January 25th sees a host of stuff to do across London, and if I were there I’d be tossing my caber and…er…salting my porridge and neeps.

The following stuff is shamelessly ripped from the wonderful people at Love Food, Love Drink. It’s a newsletter thing. Go and sign up to it by Googling.

Anyway: Simple Simon’s Bard’s Supper Pie Celebrate the life and legacy of Scotland’s national poet Rabbie Burns while indulging in the finest Scottish fayre with a Simple Simon’s Bard’s Supper Pie. Made with Jimmy Bogle’s delicious Haggis, Simple Simon adds a wee dram of Scotch whisky, some cream and spices, mixes it together, places it on a bed of steamed neeps and tatties and bakes it in light crisp puff pastry. Yum! £3.50 per pie from www.simplesimonspies.co.uk

Oh the memories of salt on porrage, neeps and tatties, early childhood in Edinburgh then a spell in Glasgow before being dragged down to London due to fathers work.
